Great news! Finally, our tireless efforts are beginning to pay off.
Why it matters:
The champion of our bill, Senator Cory Booker, will be bringing a bill to the Senate Floor this Thursday, June 13, the second day of Shavuos, that expands coverage for infertility treatment like IVF. This bill is excellent news for our efforts because it will apply continued pressure on the insurance companies that they are absolutely wrong for denying these life-creating treatments, and it is also good PR on the issue and applies helpful pressure on Republicans to act fast on this issue or face political ramifications.
Driving the news:
As you may have read, on Feb. 16, the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos used in the IVF process are considered babies in light of a tragic case where a clinic was negligent and somebody dropped and destroyed embryos. The judge, a religious fanatic, cited the Bible several times in his ruling and went so far to say that freezing embryos for IVF is morally wrong because you are freezing people. In consequence of this ruling, three Alabama clinics shut down for fear of lawsuits, and IVF has become a controversial issue and national topic.
The problem is that since this ruling the Catholics and Pro-Life groups have oddly decided to take on the issue of IVF as their next main target now that they have won the abortion case Roe v. Wade, even though they are losing the abortion war in the states all across the country. This has caused a tremendous challenge to our bill. These groups -- like Susan B. Anthony, Heritage Foundation and the Catholic Bishops -- are very powerful, backed by millions of dollars, and have a lot of influence. The Southern Baptist Church is voting this week (June 9-11) at their annual convention whether to be for or against IVF.
In addition to all of this, even though Senator Roger Marshall announced our bill with Senator Booker (See Here), since the recent Trump conviction he along with other Senate Republicans have recently announced that they will not be working with any Democrats on any bipartisan bills or efforts. This may cause a delay for our bill. (Watch Here)

In response to the Alabama ruling and to pushback against the opposition, our good friend Senator Ted Cruz recently came out with a bill together with Senator Katie Britt (R-AL) that protects IVF nation-wide, sending a clear and strong message of support for IVF for which we are very thankful. He went on all the TV networks to stress the fact that IVF is a beautiful thing. (See Here)
President Trump has recently made numerous statements in extremely strong support of "the miracle of IVF". Dozens of Republicans have said the same.
Big news:
To add muscle to our efforts, I am thrilled to announce that we will soon be launching a new 501C4 organization called "Americans for IVF"! Stay tuned for more details about this exciting development.
The bottom line:
If Republicans are unsuccessful in adding helpful amendments in the Booker IVF bill this week, we are hoping to announce the introduction of a bipartisan bill that we are working on behind the scenes. Meanwhile, please continue your Chizuk and your Tefillos -- we need all the help we can get right now!
