Please vote “no” on S.7553, a bill pushed by wealthy and connected auto dealers that will put licensed, independent auto brokers out of business across New York State.
The bill is anti-consumer for several reasons including the fact that brokers provide consumers with an array of choice for arguably one of the biggest consumer purchases of a lifetime.
If enacted it will quash competition and give the dealers a monopoly, enabling them to charge sky-high prices for vehicles that are already in short supply as a result of the post-pandemic economic downturn.
As a result, New Yorkers who rely on brokers to purchase affordable, quality vehicles – many of whom are from vulnerable religious groups, communities of color or have family members with special needs – would be marginalized.
Brokers provide a critical service to consumers who feel intimidated, confused, or pressured by the traditional dealership experience, due to language barriers, disabilities, gender discrimination, religious observance or other challenges. Brokers offer a safe, easy, reliable and convenient way to purchase vehicles that their customers clearly prefer and desire.
S.7553 would make it almost impossible for the 300+ licensed auto brokers in New York to continue operating, resulting in thousands of lost jobs in this precarious economic environment.
Please vote “no” on S.7553 thereby protecting consumers and brokers’ future and contributing to the state’s economic recovery.
Your assistance is highly appreciated.
