[Z10515] - Construction workers retrofitting the former San Antonio Public Library and Hertzberg Circus Museum into the National Western Art Foundation’s Dolph and Janie Briscoe Western Art Museum at 210 W. Market St. were recently able to access an abandoned and forgotten room on the third floor of the building. When they did, they uncovered a cache of previously unknown and uncataloged library items, including an early-edition King James Bible, dated 1615, and a Civil War-era photo album. [Website]

[LIB10.023] According to Wikipedia, this building was demolished. The Carnegie Library was located at the corner of Travis Street and McKinney Avenue. The lot for the building was purchased from the First Presbyterian Church around 1900-1901, with the library opening in 1904. The lot and building were sold back to the Church twenty-four years later. The building was deemed too small fifteen years after it was built. [Wikipedia]

[LIB6681] With a generous contribution by Mr. And Mrs. J. J. Culbertson, the library moved into its own building on South Main Street in 1932. Mr. Culbertson donated the land and financed the $50,000 building, which was to serve as both a library and art gallery. Local labor and materials were utilized whenever possible which was a boon to the area economy. The collection included both adult and juvenile titles and works of art including paintings and statuary on loan from the Culbertsons. [LIB1245] In 1954, the badly deteriorating and overcrowded Carnegie facility was torn down and a contemporary six-story facility that held 433,000 books was built in its place. While construction was underway, the Library was housed at the City’s busy train depot, Union Station. When the new building opened, it featured a listening library, special programming for young adults, and several research units staffed by subject-matter specialists. The building, located on the corner of Commerce and Harwood Streets, is still standing today. Website [http://www.dallaslibrary2.org/]

[LIB1029] Rosenberg Library has offered over a century of community service to the Galveston area. The building itself was dedicated on June 22, 1904, the birthday of its patron, Henry Rosenberg. The Moody Memorial Wing opened in 1971, more than doubling the floor space and allowing for a children's library, a history center, several galleries to showcase museum collections, and later, a computer lab.
