After debuting in 2023, Griz football is excited to bring back a Black Out game in 2024, which will be Montana’s season opener vs. Missouri State on Aug. 31 (7 p.m. kickoff).
Fans are encouraged to match the team and wear black for the night game. Once again, Griz Athletics has teamed up with Universal Athletic to design the officially licensed T-shirt for the Black Out .
The shirt can be purchased online or at select Missoula retailers (The M Store, SCHEELS and Universal Athletic). A portion of each sale will benefit the Grizzly Scholarship Association, which provides scholarships to Griz student-athletes.
In addition to the design on the front, which features Mount Sentinel overlooking Washington-Grizzly Stadium, the back of the shirt showcases the traditional Griz script outlined in reflective print, which will stand out prominently in the night under the stadium lights.
Last year’s first-ever stadium-wide Black Out became an immediate fan favorite, with a pregame visit from UFC champion Suga Sean O’Malley and a postgame fireworks show. A then-record 26,978 fans watched as Montana snapped Ferris State’s 28-game road winning streak.
The Grizzlies wore their black uniforms twice more in 2023, but this will be the first stadium-wide Black Out since the game vs. Ferris State last September.
Single-game tickets are now available for the season opener vs. Missouri State, as well as Montana’s six other home games. Fans are encouraged to get their tickets now.
In 2023, for only the second time in Washington-Grizzly Stadium history, all six regular-season home games reached capacity, in addition to the first-ever postseason sellout (semifinals vs. North Dakota State). Dating back to 2022, fans have sold out 10 consecutive regular-season games inside Washington-Grizzly Stadium, just one sellout shy of matching the record of 11, set from 2008-10.
In addition to single-game tickets, 3-game mini plan options are currently available, as well as season tickets , which offer the best rate and guarantee access to home playoff games. Montana had a 95-percent season-ticket renewal rate and is once again pushing toward a record number of season tickets (18,761 in 2023). Coming off of a Big Sky Conference title and appearance in the FCS national championship game, Montana was picked to repeat as Big Sky champions in 2024.
