Library Cards

A valid library card is required to borrow materials and use the public computers at the Moline Public Library.

One current ID with your name, photo, and residence within the city limits of Moline is required to obtain a library card.  If you do not have a photo ID with name and current residence, two pieces of current identification will be required

Eligibility for a Library Card

Individuals who reside within the Moline city limits are eligible for a library card. Individuals who reside outside the Moline city limits, and are not served by another public library, are required by Illinois State law { 75 ILCS 16/30-55(60 )}  to purchase a library card in order to borrow library materials

Individuals who reside outside the Moline city limits but own property within the city limits are eligible for a library card.

Children 

Children ages birth through 12 are eligible for a library card which allows holds and privileges with other libraries. A signature and current ID with name, photo and residence within the city limits of Moline from parent or legal guardian is required. Children must be present with their parent or legal guardian to apply for a library card.

Children over 13 should be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, who will need to provide current ID with name, photo and residence within the city limits of Moline, but are required to sign their library card application for themselves.

Any child under the age of 18 who resides outside the Moline city limits are eligible to receive a card without paying a nonresident fee .

Refusing to Issue or Renew a Card

Circulation staff may refuse to issue or renew a library card if any of the following apply:

  • Unpaid balance on previous accounts
  • Delinquent materials have not been returned from a previous account
  • Adequate identification and proof of address cannot be supplied
  • False information or identities are given
  • No permanent Moline address can be provided
