A Little AML Thrown In For Good Measure
By:

If you haven’t read this article from the Guardian, you must. Now…I’ll wait.

It’s excellent. And it reminds me of something that someone said at the Global Compliance Symposium. There was a guy from the Whistleblower Action Network, and he said that the majority of whistleblowers he sees don’t blow the whistle out of malice toward the company. Most, he said, come forward because they tried to report it internally, but got turned away, or worse.

The case reported in the Guardian is just that. The guy tried to warn his company, but they didn’t do anything. In fact, things started to go downhill from there.

The article is a great addition to the AML literature. Must reading for any budding AML compliance officer.

And thanks to the WSJ Corruption Currents blog for pointing it out.
