私は、「知らない英単語はない！」と豪語しています。
豪語していると、不思議なことに、どんな英単語も簡単に覚えてしまいます。
今日は、私が出会った単語の中から、英米の知識人に一目置かれるような「知的な英単語」を選んで紹介します。
【今日の単語】
６月１７日の英単語は、「animalcule」。
（例）The microscope cannot find the animalcule which is less perfect for
being little.
animalと関係がありそうですね。
【前回の単語】
ところで、６月１３日の「cursory」（He glanced cursorily at the letter, then gave it to me.）
いかがでしたか？
cursoryの意味は、通りいっぺんの、ぞんざいな、急ぎの、
quick and probably not detailed、
という意味です。

温暖化でシロクマが共食い？
A new study has found that polar bears in the southern Beaufort Sea may be turning to cannibalism（共食い） because longer seasons without ice prevent them from obtaining their natural food.
The study reviewed 3 cases of cannibalism in the bears, which typically kill each other only for population control, dominance, or reproductive advantage.
Environmentalists fear shrinking polar ice may soon lead to the extinction of the bears.
