Less than a month after Parisians stormed the Bastille, the National Assembly held a meeting in which the nobles(貴族)and clergy(聖職者), driven partly by fear and partly by an outburst of idealism, relinquished their manorial(荘園、領地)rights. In the course of a few hours, nobles, clergy, towns, provinces, companies, and cities lost their special privileges. Shortly afterward, the Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen.
