Concerns over the environmental dangers posed by global warming have led many people to attempt to minimize their carbon dioxide emissions by using energy efficient products like low-energy light bulbs. According to some experts, however, these bulbs, which contain small amounts of mercury, pose their own environmental risk. These experts recommend that if such a bulb is broken, the room in which it smashed should be vacated for at least 15 minutes, a vacuum cleaner should not be used to clean up the mess, and rubber gloves should be used when putting the debris into sealable plastic bags.
