　　　　　　草原が輝いていた時
　　　　　　　　花が美しく咲いていた時

　　　　　　　　　　それをとり戻すことは　もうできないけど
　　　　　　　　　　　　私達は嘆かないことにしよう

　　　　　　そして
　　　　　　　　その奥にまだ残っている
　　　　　　　　　　　生命の力を見出すことにしようではないか

「幼年時代を追想して不死を知る頌」の一節

Though nothing can bring back the hour of splendor in the grass,
of glory in the flower, we will grieve not.
Rather find strength in what remains behind.

草原の輝き花の栄光
再びそれは還らずとも嘆くなかれ
その奥に秘められたる力を見い出すべし

「Splendor in the Grass」

Not in entire forgetfulness and not in utter nakedness.
But trailing cloud of glory do we come from god who is our home.

Though nothing can bring back the hour of splendor in the
grass, of glory in the flower, we will grieve not.
Rather find strength in what remains behind.

In the primal sympathy which having been must ever be.
In the soothing thoughts that spring out of human suffering.
In the faith that looks through death. 　
Thanks to the human heart by which we　live, thanks to its
tenderness, its joy, its fears.
To me, the meanest flower that blows can give thoughts that do
often lie too deep for tears.

すべてを忘れることなく、また赤裸々でもなく、
我らは栄光の雲から出ずる。
神は我らが家なり。
草原の輝きはもはや戻らず　花は命を失っても
後に残されたものに力を見いだそう。
本能的な思いやりのなかに、
苦しみの末の和らぎのなかに、
永遠なる信仰のなかに、
生きるよすがとなる人の心。
その優しさとその喜びに感謝しよう。
人目にたたぬ一輪の花も、涙にあまる深い想いを我にもたらす。
