Today I want to share another special place in Kagawa: a Japanese restaurant called KADOYA (門家), located in Nio, a coastal town famous for ocean views and relaxed local culture.
Nio is a beautiful area, especially if you enjoy the sea and quiet countryside vibes. KADOYA isn’t located on a main street — instead, you drive into a small residential area. The road becomes narrow, and at some point you may wonder:
“Am I really going the right way?
Is there actually a restaurant here…?”
But don’t worry. Keep going.
The restaurant really is there — and it’s worth the moment of doubt.
To be honest, I didn’t have high expectations at first. Many restaurants in small towns are simple and casual, so I assumed this would be similar. But the food surprised me in the best way. Every dish was carefully prepared, beautifully balanced, and felt like real craftsmanship. It made me think the chef must have trained at a well-known restaurant somewhere. The flavors had depth — the kind of taste that comes from experience, not chance.
Lunch is around 2,500 yen, which feels very reasonable considering the quality. The place is small and quiet, so making a reservation is strongly recommended. I went on a weekday and it was already almost full.
If you visit Kagawa and want something more than just famous udon, KADOYA is a perfect stop — refined, local, humble, and truly memorable.
