I’m sending you an update from a crowded airport in Rome: Just a few days before negotiations resume over Iran’s nuclear program, Global Zero brought together a high-level group of leaders and experts from the Middle East and elsewhere to exchange ideas for establishing a WMD-free zone in the region. We convened this closed-door meeting to build political momentum and give participants an opportunity to openly address key issues in a confidential forum.
Behind the scenes, the discussions were frank and intense. I was in the room and I can tell you the challenges are many and the history is complex. Of course, as a campaigner, I’m always thinking about the movement. In conversations I had with participants in Rome, the role of the people was reinforced again and again. We need bold, new ideas and fresh approaches if we’re going to succeed in the Middle East and beyond. But above all we need citizens calling for change.
Our campaign is most effective when we’re firing on all cylinders – powerful inside-game plus global grassroots mobilization and media coverage – which is why I wanted to send you this update right away. We need you, and we need more people like you. Please share this with your friends and invite them to join Global Zero today.

If we wait until we need a WMD-free zone in the Middle East – or a nuclear weapons-free world – it will be too late to build it. The hard work must begin now, and it’s going to take an army of serious, committed activists to make that happen.
Let’s do this. Invite a friend to join the movement today.
