Today’s discussion theme was “Literature”.

Well, it wasn’t discussion at all, because the thing I could do was “explain”.
He asked me like “What is the first Japanese literature?”, “What is Haiku?” and “Who is the most Japanese writer in Japan?”
Umm…
I’m not sure my answers were right.
I always started speaking this phrase “as far as I can remember…”, “in my opinion…”, or “I’m not sure it is right but…”

The problem was he seemed to have much knowledge of Japanese literature than I have.
For example, I finished explaining what Haiku was. Then, he said “well, I have ever learned how to write Haiku for one week…”
I kept my mouth open for a while, when I heard it.

Literate, illiterate, depict, and set.
According to my teacher, the word “set” is used like this.

When is the story set?
(その話はいつの設定?)
It is set in the Meiji period.
(明治時代の話)

Where is the story set?
(その話はどこの設定?)
It is set in Japan.
(日本の話)

You can explain time and location with this word. You can also say “it is set in the FUTURE”.
