著書は日赤熊本健康管理センター所長として職員はもとより、地元の農協などとも一
丸になって地域住民の為に質の高い健康管理活動を展開してきた。熊本県内の最奥地
まで出張健診をする傍ら熊本市のセンターでは最先端の健診と健康教育を行い、その
活動理念と内容の深さは全国の模範となり、見学研修者は絶えることがなかった。
職員全員の心の中に受診者が主人公であり、医療者はそれを支える援助者であるとい
う信念があり、所長自ら受診者と一緒に食事しながら健康に関するアドバイス等をし
ていた。一貫して貫かれているのは農民や住民に対する愛であり、人々が少しでも健

その願いと活動が本書「健康からの医学」におさめられており、病気を治すだけでな
く健康で生き生きと働くための医学、つまり予防医学の神髄が存分に語られている。
一人でも多くの人に読んで頂きたい好著である。

"Looking for the Medicine from Health" was published by Dr. Wasaku Koyama
who is first runner of preventive medicine, his footprints of 50 years are
summarized.
As the director of the Japan Red Cross Kumamoto health care Center, he has
been developed the high-quality health management activities for local
residents with staffs as well as local agricultural cooperatives.
While doing a health checkup trip to the hinterland in Kumamoto Prefecture,
the center in Kumamoto city conducts first class health examinations and

became a model of the whole country, tour observers never ceased.
There was a belief that the examinees are main people in the minds of all
the staff and the medical stuffs are the helpers who supports them, the
director himself was doing advice on health while eating lunch with the
examinees.

and the essence of medicine for healthy and lively work not only to cure
diseases, i.e. preventive medicine, is spoken in full pages.
This is the best work I want many people as possible to read.
