ハ This letter contains some general information regarding the upcoming HDLS-6 conference. I have also tried to address all of the questions that we've received over the past week concerning such issues as accommodations, equipment, audience sizes, scheduling, proceedings and so forth. Please feel free to continue to contact me directly if you have additional questions. ハ 1) The conference web page is located at:ハ http://linggraduate.unm.edu/conference2004/ ハ 2) Registration information and a downloadable .PDF form can be found here:ハ http://linggraduate.unm.edu/conference2004/regi.htm ハ ハ 3) For your convenience, I have also included the links to several hotels in Albuquerque, which are near the university area. There will be a courtesy shuttle service running between these hotels and the university throughout the conference, and so I highly recommend that if at all possible, you make plans for accommodations at one of these hotels.ハ ハ Hampton Inn http://hamptoninn.hilton.com/en/hp/hotels/index.jhtml;jsessionid=FTFGM0DKEHH5WCSGBIX2VCQKIYFCXUUC?ctyhocn=ABQMTHX ハ Lebaron Courtyard Inn & Suites http://www.lebaroncourtyard.com/home.html ハ Holiday Inn http://hialbuquerque-mountainview.felcor.com/ ハ Hilton Inn http://www.hilton.com/en/hi/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=ABQHIHF ハ Plaza Inn http://www.plazainnabq.com/ ハ ハ 4) A draft copy of the conference schedule in a .PDF format has been attached to this email.ハ We have tried to accommodate everyone who contacted us regarding preferred presentation dates due to travel arrangements.ハハ The schedule is largely set at this point and any further changes will be difficult, if not impossible.ハハ We appreciate your understanding regarding this matter. ハ Please note that while the conference schedule is divided into 30-minute slots the presentation format remains 20 minutes for presentations, 5 minutes for questions, and 5 minutes between papers.ハ The presentation rooms are close to one another so moving between rooms in the 5-minute break shouldn't be a problem.ハ ハ 5) All of the presentation rooms will be equipped with a laptops (PC only - sorry, no MACs were available), data projectors (for PowerPoint), overhead transparency projectors, and audio speakers.ハ I would encourage you to bring your own laptops if at all possible to guarantee that your presentation will not encounter unexpected technical problems.ハ In addition, those presenters with MAC laptops should bring an adaptor for LCD computer projects - if their machines require them.ハ Again, better to be safe than sorry.ハ ハ 6) Audience size.ハ Good question.ハ We have 66 confirmed presenters out of 70 and I'm guessing (from last years numbers) that we may have at least 110 registered participants. Each room can hold 60 people. On Thursday we will have 2 parallel sessions and 3 on Friday and Saturday.ハ Your guess is as good as mine right now!ハ We will have a better idea of numbers as we get closer to the conference date and I will keep you informed via email. ハ 7) Photocopies.ハ We have a local Kinko's shop (24/7)and a Student Copy shop that will be open on Thursday and Friday.ハハ Photocopying shouldn't be a problem if you want to do it here but you may want to come with them already made just to reduce hassles. ハ 8) We will be publishing conference proceedings.ハ A PDF copy of our proceedings guidelines and related permissions form has been attached to this email.ハ Further details on when to submit your papers for consideration, how many can and will be accepted, etc., will be forthcoming. ハ
9)ハ The titles and abstracts of our Keynote's presentations will be posted on our website in the near future.ハ A finalized schedule will also be posted shortly.ハ In the meantime please refer to the attached PDF copy.ハ ハ ハ Please let me know if I can be of any further help to you as you make your travel arrangements. I am looking forward to seeing you all in November. ハ Sincerely, ハ ハ Christopher Shank President, HDLS Department of Linguistics University of New Mexico
