Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day!
Thou art more lovely and more trmperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May，
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines，
And often is his gold complexion dimm’d:
And every fair from fair sometime declines，
By chance or nature’s changing course untrimm’d;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander’st in his shade，
When in eternal lines to time thou growest:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see，
So long lives this and this gives life to thee.
君を夏の日にたとえても
君はもっと美しいもっとおだやかだ
手荒い風は五月の蕾をふるわし
また夏の季節はあまりにも短い命
時には天の眼はあまりにも署く照る
幾度かその黄金の顔色は暗くなる
美しいものはいつかは衰える
偶然と自然のうつりかわりに美がはぎとられる
だが君の永遠の夏は色あせることがない
君の美は失くなることがない
死もその影に君を追放する勇気はない
君は永遠の詩歌に歌われ永遠と合体するからだ
人間が呼吸する限りまた眼が見える限り
この詩は生き残り、これが君を生かすのだ
第18番はシェイクスピアの「ソネット集」で最も有名なものの一つ。冒頭の"Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? "（君を夏の日にたとえても）が読む者に強い印象を与えずにはおかない絢爛たる美の賛歌。
