There are many technipues used to present the themes in "Batman gegins". I am going to discuss two of these techniques and how they relate to themes in this film. The techniques I am going to discuss are the camera work used and the use of colour.
In one scene, Batman is standing on a tall building and looking out over Gotham City. He appeares to be protecting the city. This shot shows the coruage Bruce finds in himself to battle against the corruption in the city.
This emphasises the shape of his cape and mask and makes him look very dramatic and mysterious. The camera is angled downwords so the audience can see what Batman is lokking at. The scene looks like he has power in the city, as if he is looking over his kingdom. He is like a guardian og the city.
Another scene showed a close-up shot of Batman and Scarecrow. The scene shows the emotions on the characters' faces. The higi angle shot used in this scene makes Scarecrow seem like the victim and weak. The low angle shot used in this scene makes Batman seem powerful and aggressive. It's clever work because in reality in the film, Scarecrow is the aggressor and part of the criminal activity and Batman is the guardian of the city, fighting evil. This scene depicts the hallucinogenic effect the poison spray had on Scarecrow.
There are many bright colours at the beginning of the film and the end of the film.
In conckusion, different uses of colour and camera work are used in the film to emphasise different themes. The use of dark imagery portrays the criminal underworld in which Batman operates, fighting crime. Camera angles are used to emphasise power or weakness in the characters.
