英語の勉強です。
■ Nothing is ever accomplished by a committee
unless it consists of three members,
one of whom happens to be sick and another absent.

accomplishedは「成し遂げる」で、"Mission accomplished." はゲームのステージクリアなどでよく目にかかった「任務無事完了」。
committeeは「委員会」。語源で見ると、commit + ee で、commit は「(処置・記録などを)委ねる」で、コンピュータ用語でも「DB書込＝処理の最終確定」で同じ意味。-ee の接尾は「受ける者」「被～者」のこと。-er, -or なら「行う者」になるのは頻出ですね。「雇用する」の employ でみると、employer は雇用者で、employee が従業員となります。
consists of ～ は、「～から成る」。
absent は「欠席の」。absentee だと欠席者・不在者。

God と先頭が大文字になるのは「(キリスト教の)神」です。
ギリシャ神話など神がたくさんいるとgod, gods。the god of the sea だと海の神ネプチューン。
日本も八百万ノ神だからgodの方ですが、靖国神社は the Yasukuni Shrine で、shrine は、聖堂・廟・霊場という語です。(靖国参拝の問題が複雑化する一因は、神社が shrine が前面の解釈だからか？)
日本の神はgodには絡まず Shinto (神道) のようです。神道とはあまり聞かない何かですね。日本を外から説明するための言葉でしょうか。神社も、Shinto-house とか訳の分からない語があてられていたら、もっと違ったかもしれません。

勤労と放蕩、いろいろなものに置き換えても成立しそうです。
究極的には戦争と平和もこの延長にある、というはさすがに広げすぎでしょうか。
