えー今日は休日で、時間があるのでジェイムス・ジョイス著、「ダブリンの市民」から「イーヴリン」の感想を英語で書いてみます。
あ、ちゃんと後半に日本語訳を入れています。
間違いがあると思いますが、その時は指摘をよろしくお願いします。
なお、英語はペンギンブックス、ペンギンクラッシック版を、日本語は 「ダブリンの市民」結城英雄訳 岩波文庫2004年2月
"EVELINE" is one of short novel in "Dubliners" written by James Joyce.
I am surprised a perfect style of Dubliners in spite of young works of Joyce.
The style can be defined as follows.
“Dubliners choose what not space of choice is. Their choice is only obsession about escape or salvation, not coming true. The fact is existence of Dubliners fate”
Eveline is a girl living in Dublin under bad situation in that novel.
Her farther treat her as housekeepers, a job is boring.
Close people have gone away, some people live abroad, and others are dead.
But, she has a dream that Frank, who is her lover and a sailor, took her to Buenos Ayres.
She decides to go on board with him, then she stand by a port.
But she is not able to ride ship with her strange feeling and reaction.
I think that the fate induct strange feeling and reaction.
Every one can not escape from the fate.
Escape wish is only obsession.
Of course, obsession are weaker than the fate.
The fate is very strong customs which write on person before they get their egos.
Father, mother, living city, etc surround us.
After all, the fate is over personality and self decision.
We usually live without consciousness of the fate.
But sometime the fate is detected as if magmas would be exploded to volcano hundreds years interval.
For example, the girl standing by port is Eveline.
Firstly and suddenly, the consciousness choice meets the fate.
Strangely, obsession is on consciousness side.
On the other hands, fate is on unconsciousness side.
“Dubliners” describes state of universal consciousness to write perfect about local people.
The realism in Mr. James Joyce is not only human action but also its consciousness moving.
He expresses very clear unconsciousness fate under normal live and competition of consciousness against unconsciousness.
That point is put last scenes on novel in almost “Dubliners”
Last scenes break the normal tensions, then uncontrolled power exploded.
The braking senses are seemed to be horrible ,beautiful and other expressions.
“Dubliners” include various situation and feeling, that is “Ambivalenz”.
I am sure "EVELINE" is his one of the masterpiece because of the brilliant.

若い日の作品にも関わらず、完璧な小説のスタイルをしているのに僕は驚かされる。
そのスタイルは次のようなものである。
「ダブリン市民は選択の余地の無いことを選択している。その選択とは単に逃避や救済の妄想であり、実現しない。事実それがダブリン市民の宿命なのだ」
この小説では、イーヴリーンはひどい環境下でダブリンに住む少女です。
彼の父は彼女を家政婦として扱い、仕事は単調です。
親しい人々は遠くへ行き、あるも人が外国に、ある人ななくなりました。
しかし、船夫で恋人のフランクがブエノスアイレスまで連れて行ってくれるとの夢を彼女は持っています。
彼女は彼と一緒に船に乗ることを決め、港に立ちます。
しかし、奇妙な反応と感情によって船に乗ることはできないのです。
私は宿命が奇妙な感情と反応を引き起こしたのだと考えます。
誰もが宿命から逃れられないのです。
逃亡の願望は妄想にしか過ぎません。
勿論、妄想は宿命よりも弱いのです。
宿命とは、自我を獲得する前に人に上書きされた、強い習慣です。
父親、母親、住んでいる街などなど、我々を囲んでいます。
つまり、宿命は個人や自己決定を超えたものなのです。
我々は日常、宿命を意識することなく生活しています。
しかし、何百年間隔で火山からマグマが爆発するかのごとく、宿命は発見されます。
例えば、港にたつイヴリーンです。
初めてかつ、突然、意識の選択は宿命に遭遇するのです。
奇妙なことに、妄想は意識の側にあります。
一方、運命は無意識の側にあるのです。
「ダブリンの市民」は地方の人々について完全に書くことで、普遍的な意識のあり方を描写しています。
ジェイムス・ジョイス氏におけるリアリズムとは、人間の行動だけではなく、意識の動きがあるのです。
彼は通常の生活下での意識せざる宿命と意識と無意識のせめぎあいをとても明確に描いています。
「ダブリンの市民」のほとんどではそのポイントはほとんどラストシーンに配置されています。
ラストシーンは通常の緊迫を壊し、コントロールできない力が爆発します。
その壊すシーンは恐ろしく、美しく、様々な表現ができそうです。
「ダブリンの市民」は様々な状況や感情を含有しています。
つまり、「背反感情」です。
「イブリーン」はその鮮やかさから傑作の一つと、私は断言します。
