I lived and studied in Paris for one year. During that time, my favorite thing to do was to find a cafe in an old, interesting looking building overlooking a busy street and sit, drink coffee and watch the street. I highly recommend this activity. You can learn a lot about people, about the French culture, and also about yourself.

While observing others, you notice what they are wearing first, and this tells about their social status and wealth. Look at the expressions on their faces. Facial expressions can tell you what kind of mood people are in. If you observe someone in a cafe, you can see what he or she eats and drinks. If they are talking with someone, you can try to guess their relationship. If you can't hear the conversation or understand the language, you can imagine what they are saying, just for fun. Making observations about others allows you to think about your own life, too. But beware! As you watch others, others are most likely watching you!
