WHY BOOST THE ARMY?
(略)
The emphasis on light infantry reflects the Army's need to be flexible, mobile and rapidly deployable. The recent deployments to the Solomon Islands and East Timor, where we were able to get more than 100 troops on the ground within a day of receiving a request for help, highlights the benefit of this capability.
Our decision to boost the Army is based on a realistic assessment that the threats we can identify will remain for the foreseeable future. It is also based on the realisation there are some threats we can't anticipate and that, in the face of uncertainty, we must be prepared.
