I joined an interesting party- an international Christmas party hosted by my new friend.
I talked with a young man from England.
The topic became about parties held around Christmas and New Year.
I've always wondered how to explain " bounenkai " in English.
Japanese-English dictionaries say " a year-end (dinner) party ". Anyway, I asked him.
According to him-
They usually have parties on Christmas and New Years sometimes with family, and sometimes with friends- it depends.
But there are few cases that the companies host parties like Japanese bounenkai.
Besides-
Japanese bounenkai is more like a duty than a fun , he added.
The Christmas party ended with " ippon-jime "; everyone claps once at the same time. What a fashionable finish!
