ジョージ・レイコフ

　(1941-)

　認知意味論の創始者。
　生成文法、特に生成意味論論者であったが、後に認知言語学の潮流を形成する。生成意味論の立場から解釈意味論に真っ向から対立した。
　このさなかの1969年のアメリカ言語学会におけるジャケンドフとの激しい口論はよく知られている。
　やがて自分の対象とする現象を扱うのに生成文法枠内で適切でないと悟り、独自の領域を模索した。これが認知意味論である。
