Blast from the Past

As I was waiting to say good night to my "special someone" I started reading his diary entry from his website. It was filled with memories that I had somehow forgotten during these past couple of months. But as I was reading, the smell of his apartment, the sound of our laughter, and the scenes of our life together in Santa Barbara came alive. It was like I was back in paradise again, where I was a happy little clam, because I was able to spend as much time as I wanted with the love of my life. Back then, everything was so wonderful. I don't think there's a word to describe the happiness that we were able to enjoy every single day. The excitement that would bubble up in my stomach every time I pulled up in front of his apartment. I would go about 80 mi/hr just to have 5 more precious minutes with him. A smile would be playing on my lips as I knocked on his door. Sometimes, I would hear his voice, 「どうぞ~」And other times, when he was feeling more playful (actually, it was MOST of the time) the front door would open ever so slightly, as if it was a gate to a haunted house. I would take a peek inside the dark room and creep slowly inside, and discover him on the other side of the door, with a huge grin on his face. We would share a sweet hug, and our day together would start. Happy days. I couldn't bear to spend a day without him. I didn't want to hang out with anyone but him. I couldn't believe how blessed I was, because I'd met the love of my life at the mere age of 18. The 4 months that I spent with him in Santa Barbara were one of the best times of my life. It's so fun to think back on those days, but at the same time, there's a sad side to it too. Now, whenever I open a door, he's not hiding behind it. Now, I can't break the speed limit to see him everyday. Now, we're living with an ocean between us. But everytime I get a little blue, I remind myself that he's there. He's here in this world. The one person that I love more than anyone in this world loves me too. Unconditionally. The fact that God brought me into his life and brought him into my life is something that shouldn't be forgotten just because there's a little trickle of water between us. Someday we're going to be able to relive those happy days. And our happiness is going to be multiplied by tens, hundreds, thousands of times. Being apart isn't easy, and sometimes there are days when one of us is too tired to talk, and we wish that there wasn't such a thing as a time difference in this world. But this is just temporary. 「ただ一時的なこと。」In a couple years, we are going to be so happy. I can't wait. When I moved to Japan, we promised each other that through this long-distance relationship we were going to strengthen our love for one another. And when we can finally live together again, we will have no doubt whatsoever that we were meant for each other. No matter what hardships await us, we're going to overcome them. Because we're together, no matter what. Even if physically, we're an ocean apart, our love keeps us together. 「距離は離れていても、心はいつも一緒だよ。」That's what he says to me. Everytime I hear him say that, I feel a warmth in my heart. The warmth is from him. It's his love entering my heart.
