北京時間の4月1日午前10時、北京オリンピックの聖火が特別機「オリンピック聖火号」で北京の首都空港を発ち、聖火の海外リレーのスタート地点であるカザフスタンの大都市アルマティに向いました。
北京オリンピック組織委員会の蒋効愚執行服議長の率いる聖火リレー団は海外リレーの全コースを同行します。
北京オリンピック聖火リレーのテーマは「調和の取れた旅」というもので、スローガンは「情熱を燃やし、夢を伝える」です。聖火リレーは130日間続き、約13万7000キロのコースを走り、21000人以上のランナーがこのリレーに参加にします。これはオリンピック史上時間が最も長く、ランナー数が最も多いものです。
