第40回：　前置詞　その２

〈前置詞＋名詞〉 の形で、 形容詞や副詞のはたらき
をすることを最初に覚えておきましょう。

How beautiful that picture on the wall is !
　　　　　　「 壁にかかっている あの絵」　 〈形容詞〉
I studied English for two hours yesterday .
　　　　　　「 ２時間 勉強した」　 〈副詞〉


公立校の入試問題 でよく目にする前置詞関連の問題では主に
〈時を表す前置詞〉〈場所を表す前置詞〉
〈方向・運動を表す前置詞〉〈道具・材料・手段を表す前置詞〉
などです。

問題形式で最も多いのは 〈選択問題〉 です。
その他にも 〈書き換え問題〉 や 〈誤りを正す問題〉 などがあります。
例を少し上げてみましょう。

■ 選択問題

・（　　　）内に下から適するものを選び記号で答える問題

（１）　 You must finish your work (   　  ) five in the afternoon .

（４）　 Where did you meet him yesterday ?

■ 書き換え問題

２つの文がほぼ同じ意味になるように、（　　　）内に敵語を入れる問題

（１）　 My father usually goes to his office by car .
 　　　 = My father usually (  　   ) (  　   ) his office .
（２）　 Your idea is a little different from mine .
 　　　 = There is a little difference (   　  ) your idea (   　  ) mine .
（３）　 She walks to school every day .
 　　　 = She goes to school (  　   ) (    　 ).
（４）　 He didn't go to school yesterday .
 　　　 = He was (   　  ) (  　   ) school yesterday .

私立の難関校などで多くみられる問題には次のようなものがあります。

■ 英作文

（１）　壁に絵が１枚かかっています。
（２）　テレビゲームのせいで、近頃の子供は外で遊ばない。

■ 適語補充問題

（　　　）内に適当な１語を入れる問題

（１）　 He was born (   　　  ) Canada (   　　  ) the second
　　　　(  　　   ) May, 1979.
（２）　 In Japan, we usually don't enter our rooms (   　　  )
　　　　our shoes on.
（３）　 Cross the street carefully.
 　　　 = Go from this side of the street to the (   　　  )

特に、難関校では 思考力や表現力を試す 高度な英作文や
中学では学習しない高校生初期レベルの問題などもよく
出題されます。こうした問題に対処するには、日ごろから入試の
過去問題集などでこれらの問題に慣れることが大切です。
