This is a bit of a rant. I entered a photo contest for the Ohara Matsuri, a local dance festival held here in Kagoshima November 3rd each year. I thought my photos were good and that I had a chance at actually winning the contest. I ended up getting only an honourable
Although some were interesting to a point I didn’t find them technically good enough to actually win prizes.
I entered 3 photos and the weakest of the three was chosen for honourable mention. The photos I thought had a chance of winning were not chosen at all. I think if I had submitted my best photo only I would have won a top prize but I gave the judges a chance to choose another. Next year I will submit only one photo I think. One they can’t pass over. I noticed that each of the chosen photos was made by a different photographer. It is difficult to get 40 good photos from 40 different photographers when there weren’t that many serious photographers at the festival. I know I might sound a little conceited but I think my photos were more than good enough to win. Unfortunately the “judges” didn’t.
