　サイモンとガーファンクル、ちょっと気取った言い方になってしまうけど、彼らは俺たちにとって、青春の思い出そのものだと言えるのではないだろうか。俺たち－つまり現在４０～５０歳代の世代にとって、学生時代（小・中・高・・・）を振り返ってみれば、そこにいつもサイモンとガーファンクルの美しい調べが流れていたのではないか。ある時は「サウンド・オブ・サイレンス」であり、また別の時は「明日に架ける橋」だったりした。俺がこのすでに完結してしまった素晴らしいデュエット・チーム、サイモンとガーファンクルの歌に思いを馳せれば、その向こうに必ず俺の過ぎ去った時代を見てしまう。そして寂しいような、それでいてどこか甘いある種の感懐が俺を包み込む。多分、これは俺たちの世代に共通する思いのような気がする。サイモンとガーファンクルが現役として活躍した時代に、いわゆる青春を過ごした俺たちが、彼らの作品のいちばんの聴き手だとは勿論思わないけれど、俺たちの青春が彼らの歌と共にあったというのは、やっぱり何だかとても嬉しいことのような気がする。
