留学生に100の質問（５１～７５）
日本に年に２回帰ったときに美容院へ行っている。普段アメリカで生活してるときは、自分で。。。後ろ髪は、洗面所の鏡と、自分の手鏡の２つを合わせて使ってる。
I go to the hair salon whenever I go back to Japan. When I’m in the U.S., I cut my hair by myself. I use two mirrors when I cut the back hair.
５２．普段化粧をします？（してる人）どのくらいかける？
ちょっとだけ。コンタクトレンズもあるから、起きてから学校行くまで２０分はほしいね。
I wear makeup. I also use contact lenses, so I need approximately 20 minutes to get prepared for school.
５３．旅行はよくする？留学先と日本以外でその土を踏んだことのある国名を教えてください。
留学中、大きな休みがあると、友達とレンタカー借りて、近場へ行ったりするよ。行ったところは、旅行記見ればわかるけど、Napa, San Francisco, Vallejoなど。昔、元彼とカリフォルニアのベイエリア、シアトル、カナダなど行ったなあ。
今までの人生で行ったことある国は、サイパン、香港、オーストラリア、イギリス。
When I have big vacation, I usually travel with my friends by using a rental car. We’ve been to Napa, San Francisco, Vallejo as you can see in “Travel” section on my HP. I’ve been to Seattle, Bayarea, and Canada with my ex. I’ve been to Saipan islands, Hong Kong, Australia, and England so far.
５４．留学中にしたの旅の思い出をひとつ教えてください。
「ひとつ」なんて決められない！行ったところ全て良い思い出があるし。詳しくは、旅行記を見てネ！
I can’t decide the only one. I got lots of nice experience whereever I go. Look at “Travel” section for detail.
５５．インターンシップをしたことはある？してみたいと思ってる？それはどうして？
ジャーナリズム学部では、インターンシップが必須だから、2004年の夏に日本でしようと思ってる。現在、出版、広報、広告関係を捜索中。インターンを通して、本当にそれが自分のやりたいことか確認できるチャンスなので、やってみたい。
In Journalism major, we are required to have internships, so I’m gonna get intern during 2004 summer, so I’m looking for publishing, public relations or advertising fields. Through internship, I hope I can make sure whether the job is really what I’ve been looking for.
５６．留学してからついた習慣ってある？
ソファーに座っているとき、手前のテーブルの上に足をドドーンとのせること。だって、アメリカ人みんなやってるんだもん。日本ではかなり行儀悪いことだよね。。。
あと、日本へ帰ったときも、タクシーを使ってお金を払うとき、いつもチップをあげている（母親は、「もったいないからやめなさいよ。」と注意してくるが）。例えば、タクシー代850円かかったら、1000円あげたくなっちゃう。多い？
When I’m sittin on the sofa, I put my legs on the table because every American does it. I know it’s so impolite in Japan. Also, I give tips for taxi drivers even in Japan, but my mom says, “Makichin! Stop it! It’s waste of money!” For example, if it costs 850yen, I’ll give 1000yen. Is that too much?
５７．携帯持ってる？また日本では持ってた？
アメリカではいらないかな。人に私の居場所知られたくないから（笑）。というより、だいたい家にいるし。家に電話があれば充分。日本では、待ち合わせとかに便利だから持ってた。
I don’t need a cell phone in the U.S. because I don’t want people to know where I am =). I usually stay in my room, so it’s enough if I have a home phone. I had it in Japan because it’s convenient to let other people know where I was.
５８．留学先と日本の「似てるじゃん」と思う共通点はなに？
結構、飲むの好きね（＾＾）。

５９．留学先での好きな行事、イベントは？（例：クリスマス）またその理由は？
うちの大学で、年に1回、International Club主催のイベントThe Night of All Nationsというものがある。それは、色々な国から来た留学生たちが、自分の国の文化や食べ物を紹介するというもの。歌やダンスも披露されて、毎年楽しみ！！！だけど、食べ物の競争率は高く、何も食べれないけどね（＾＾；）。世界がひとつになったようでスバラシイ（笑）ので好きです。
We have The Night of All Nations held by International Club once a year. In the event, lots of international students present their culture and food, also there are some performances. I’m excited to come over, but everybody wants to eat. First come, first served, so I can’t eat anything though. This is like the world is united! Fantastic!
６０．留学先の人には傾向として 本当の年齢より、上にみられる下にみられる？
もち下よ！ある人の証言によると、私は１７歳に見えるって♪キャピッ！
Of course I look young! Someone said, I look 17-year-old girl.
６１．留学先の人の精神年齢や、見た目は、あなたの感覚的に本当の年より上ですか下ですか？
精神年齢はどうかなあ。わからないけど、ちゃんと自分の意見を主張できる点では、実年齢よりは上かも。見た目は、、、上に見えるだろうけど、だいたい私より２，３歳下だろうね。
I don’t know about mental age of Americans, but in terms of saying their opinion clearly, they might be older than real age. They look older, but they are couple years younger than me.
６２．日本人と他のアジア人、見分けられますか？
なんとなくわかる。
Yeah, I guess so.
６３．思いつく日本人の特徴を教えてください。
髪の毛を茶色く脱色してる・コート＋ブーツの服装・ジェスチャー使わない
They got their hair dyed. They wear coat and boots. They don’t use gestures.
６４．日本人以外のアジア人の簡単な傾向を教えてください。
小麦色の肌・角張った顔＋つり目・あごひげを作らない・Hiphop音楽好き・ラフな格好している
They have light-brouwn color skin. They have square-shaped face with sharp eyes. They don’t have mustache.
６５．日本人以外に間違えられたことはありますか？（あると答えた人）何人に間違えられた？そのときどう思った？
飛行機（日本の）乗ったら、ちゃんと日本語で話しかけられます！
ある日、大学構内を歩いてたら、「君は日本人だね？当たった～！」と喜ぶオヤジに出くわした。
でも、アメリカ人の小さい子たちに、「ニーハオ」「ニーハオ」といわれたことがある。
While I’m on the airplane, I’m talked in Japanese. One day, a guy asked me, “Are you Japanese? Ohhhh here we go!” But some American kids called me, “Ni-hao.”
６６．自分をやっぱ日本人だなぁーと感じるときはどんなとき？
日本の服着て、日本食食べて、日本のテレビみながら日本人の友達と雑談してる時（笑）。
Wearing Japanese clothes, eating Japanese food, watching Japanese TV and talking to Japanese friends.
６７．自分が少しアメリカナイズ（留学先がアメリカなら）したなーと感じるときはありますか？どんなとき？
たまにF-words（F*ckingなど）を使ってしまう（＾＾；）ところ。うひゃーっ。
I sometimes use F-words.
６８．アメリカナイズ等ではないが、留学したことで自分が変わったことはありますか？
マジョリティーの意見と違う意見を聞いても、「変なの～、なんで～？」と思わなくなった。
たまーに、世界規模（！）物事を考えるようになった。
Even though I hear opinion that is different from majoritie’s, I don’t think, “Why does he/she think so? It’s weird.” Also, sometimes I think of stuff in a world point of view.
６９．英語力（または留学先の言語）にはどのくらいの自信がある？また、どの程度喋れる？
普段生活する上では困らないけど、やはり授業中は、黙って座ってることが多い。自分の意見を英語で言うのがなかなか難しい。政治的な事なんてもってのほか（日本語でもムリ）！
I have no problem with having a general conversation, but I’m quiet during class because it’s difficult to express my opinion in front of classmates. I can’t have a political debate (even in Japanese)!
７０．日本語にどのくらいの自信がある？（漢字、敬語など）
あ～、こっちにいると、漢字をどんどん忘れてしまう。だけど、日本語はぺらぺらで、ネイティブ並よ♪（当たり前）
I sometimes forget how to write Kanji, but I can speak Japanese fluently like Native Japanese.
７１．英語（留学先の言葉）と日本語以外で話せる言語はある？
高校の時、独学で北京語と広東語をやっていたのだが。。。ほぼ忘れちゃった。
I learned Mandarin and Cantonese by myself when I was a high school student, but I almost forgot.
７２．普段の生活を簡単に教えてください。
学校→家→ごはん食べる→楽天日記の更新→寝る あれ？勉強は！？
School, come back home, eat lunch (or dinner), keep Rakuten diary, sleep

７３．学校内でクラブ等に参加してる？どんなクラブ？
Asian-American Students Association (AASA)に一応所属している。ほぼユーレイ部員？アジア系アメリカ人が集まって、交流会があったり、アジアンアメリカンに関するイベントに参加したりetc.
I’m a member of AASA, but I don’t much get involved. There are Asian-Americans in the club and we have socials and we join events, concerning about Asian Americans.
７４．学校外ではクラブ等に参加してる？どんなクラブ？

７５．あなたの専攻（＋副専攻）は留学先で勉強するほうが日本で勉強するより充実していると思いますか？
ジャーナリズム学部って日本の大学に確かないような。。。ブロードキャスティング、広告、広報、レポーティング、道徳、グラフィックなどの授業があって、幅広く学べて良いと思う。
インテリアデザインは副専攻だから、インテリアの歴史、色や光、ハウジング、家具の材質、生地など基本的なことを学ぶだけ。
I don’t think there is Journalis major in Japanese universities. I have choices from broadcasting, advertising, public relations, reporting, ethics, and graphics etc. For Interior Design, I just take it for minor, so I learn fundamental stuff like history of INTD, color, light, housing, materials for furniture, and fabric etc.
