オジさんの戯言

行ってきました、 ジュリア・フォーダム Billboard LIVE OSAKA 。

1stアルバムが出た直後の1989年ぐらいから聴いているので、かれこれ愛聴歴が20年近くになりますな。




1992年にジュリアさんのライヴ映像をBSで初めて観ました。
ギターを弾きながら歌う姿を見て、その時初めてワシは楽器を弾きたい衝動に駆られた、運命的な人（？）でもあります。

1994年の厚生年金会館、1997年のIMPホール、2005年のブルーノートに続き、4回目の生・ジュリア様。
Webで予約をしたら、入場整理番号が なんと２番！！！


最前列のど真ん中、ご本人まで僅か2mの至近距離！
かぶりつきで堪能 して参りました。

"Falling Forward"、"Girl Friend"、"Porcelain"、"China Blue"と好きな曲が続き、日本未発売のニューアルバム『China Blue』に収録の新曲を織り交ぜていました。
まさかライヴで聴けるとは思わなかった、サンバ調の"Genius"、ピアノの伴奏だけでしっとりと歌う"Tower Block"に感激。
有名どころで"Happy Ever After"、"Manhattan Skyline"と充実のセットリスト。


「シルキー・ヴォイス」と形容されているようですが、何と言っても圧倒的に広い音域が魅力です。かつて、マライア・キャリーが「7オクターブの歌姫」としてその広い音域をウリにしていましたが、「それならジュリアさんだって負けちゃいねぇだろうがよ！」と一人対抗心を燃やしていたものです。
白人女性ヴォーカリストとは思えない超低音から、ミニー・リパートンの"Lovin' You"を歌えてしまう高音域まで、一点の曇りも無く発せられる歌声は鳥肌が立ちます。


今回のバックも特筆モノ。
ベースのブレット・シモンズと、ドラムのジェイソン・スミス。
いずれも初めて知ったミュージシャンですが、演奏もさることながら、ファルセットの効いた違和感の無いきれいなコーラスが実に印象的。
ピアノ、キーボードは、おそらく昔からの盟友であろう、スペンサー・カズンズ。ビデオでも見たことがあります。


いや～、実によかった。
満足度十分。心が満腹になったひとときでございました。

タイトルトラックの"China Blue"、"Funny Guy"、"For You Only For You"と、セルフカバーも含まれていますが、中でも愛娘と一緒にいたい気持ちを歌った軽快なジャズナンバー、"I Want To Stay Home With You"が凄くいいです！
ライヴでも歌っていましたが、さすがに世界の国名、都市名を歌詞の中に列挙しているせいか、フロアモニターに歌詞のカンペが貼ってありました（笑）
