Hi friends,
After attending the LUCSUS seminar on 'Depletion of Oceanic Fish Stocks,' and being a member of Ocean Pollution Regime team, my interest and awareness of ocean are rising day by day... I found an article 'Fish Stocks Could 'Collapse by 2048' on Discovery Channel, and was disappointed in two points.
One was the statement of a specialist saying "by developing new technologies that capture target species more efficiently and result in less impact on other species or the environment, we are helping to ensure our industry does not adversely affect surrounding ecosystems or damage native species."
I don't think that any 'efficient' catchment can result in modest impact on environment... Another disappointment was to find so many ads all over on this website...it's ironic.
For those who read the article, I want to add that the Japanese consume nearly 10 times as much fish as the Americans do. Sorry for the pessimistic news, but I think this is serious, and want to keep my eyes on this issue.
By the way, 'Bring me the ocean' is the title of my favorite non-fiction book that changed my life and brought me into the environmental field. It depicts the environmental education activities of an American non-profit organization called Animals As Intermediaries.
