名詞

★可算名詞の前に2以上の数詞がきた場合は、その可算名詞は複数形になります。

「1/4」
one-fourth，a quarter
「3/4」
three fourth s ， three quarter s

★3語以上で構成される名詞節が主語になる場合、これを受ける動詞は単数動詞になります。

★a number of ～「いくつかの、多数の～」は複数扱いです。

A number of pension plans are 「いくつかの年金制度が･･･」

★the number of ～「～の数は」は単数扱いです。

The number of pension plans is 「年金制度の数は･･･」

★「a series of 複数名詞」が主語になる場合は単数扱いです。

a couple of employee s 「2.3人の社員」

the majority of employee s 「大多数の一般社員」

a list of stockholder s 「株主一覧表」
plenty of car s 「たくさんの車」

★The reason (why) S + V is that「～する理由は･･･」

The reason why we need money is that we are short of cash.

★大きさや量など規格が同じものを数える場合は不可算名詞が可算名詞になることがあります。
We ordered two coffees.
She always takes two sugars in her tea.

★個数で数えるのではなく、量で数える場合は可算名詞が不可算名詞になることがあります。
He ate some chicken for lunch.
She put some apple on the cake.

代名詞

★所有代名詞の「～of mine」

"A friend of mine"の言い方がよく使われます。

Some ideas of hers are super.

That plan of yours is wonderful.
