And we don’t want private innovation crushed under the weight of a state-controlled monopoly , but the GENIUS Act ensures that only regulated institutions get to issue stablecoins,
effectively outlawing decentralized alternatives:

The Act defines a “payment stablecoin” as a “digital asset recorded on a cryptographically secured distributed ledger”.

There are many ways to create a distributed ledger, all less secure than a public blockchain. You can just have a redundant database. Directed Acyclic Graphs. Other gossip protocols like Hashgraph. Corda is a permissioned DLT. all of these versions of distributed ledgers are
inferior to blockchain with the idea of your money being yours.

GENIUS Act Isn’t Crypto Freedom, It Is the Exact Opposite.

This isn’t “regulation for innovation.” This is 100% a CBDC. Everything bad about it. It doesn’t even specify that a rock solid technology like public blockchains be used for this.

In 2020, the Fed lowered the amount of reserves banks need to hold to 0%. Where was she? Not a word. Now the republicans come up with this disaster and she is all fiery. This stable coin
act is empowered becuase banks don’t need ot keep any reserves at all. They can just print these things, while Warren has been haranguing Tether about their reserve audits.

Let’s Be Honest About Trump and the GOP

Despite what Trump keeps saying, the vote was pretty damn close . 1.5% of the popular vote. The smallest margin in decades . One of the smallest margins ever.

I contend (without material support in this article), that the crypto voters, and people who were tired of trying to force cultural changes top down, are what explain the win. Trump made a ton of promises about crypto. All these were presented on a platter engraved with “freedom” and “liberty”.

First the $TRUMP pump-and-dump , which specifically harmed his own tribe of MAGA supporters.

While most Republicans betrayed the industry, Josh Hawley and Rand Paul stood against this nightmare. They saw the danger, maybe they actually understand this. Rand said he doesn’t see the need for regulation. I think he means in terms of control, rather than clarity. Hawley thinks this is a giveaway to “Big Tech”, whatever that is. What’s funny is that he doesn’t see how this is a huge giveaway to banks.

What Regulation Could Have Been

It’s possible to make regulation that isn’t is bad.

That’s order , not control . Frankly, we already have laws in place for all of that.

Easy. Tether will either submit, or leave the US. Other stable coins won’t be represented in american markets. Europe will follow suit on this model or make one even worse.
