I am also the mother of two daughters. My elder daughter is 2 years and 2 months old and my younger daughter is 7 months old. When I lived in Japan I had a job, so I was quite busy. It was hard to make time to play with my children. However, now I have plenty of time to play with them. I think it is very good for me and my children. However I feel a kind of emptiness sometimes. My job was very hard but I really loved it. Of course, I had to leave my job when we left Japan. I would like to go back to my job in the future. Therefore I will use this time to do something valuable. So I am studying Mandarin and I want to try many things.

Studying Mandarin
I’ve now been living in Kaohsiung for about a year. I came to Taiwan in October 2003, but I went back to Japan for six months to have my baby. I’ve studied Mandarin but my speaking and listening comprehension is not still good. I found out by chance about new classes beginning at Kaohsiung Normal University but hesitated to apply, because my younger daughter May May is with me the whole day. She is a very quiet baby and I go with her almost everywhere, for example to lunch with my friends or shopping or to the baby play group etc., but I can’t take her to classes at University. Finally I decided to send her to a nursery near the University while I am in the class. Our class has 4 members, (one Thai lady and three Japanese including me) and the level is intermediate. They speak Mandarin pretty well except me. As you know Chinese characters and Japanese ones are very similar but have a different pronunciation. When I read Mandarin I can understand the approximate meaning so I can follow the class but I would like to speak like them and communicate with them more. That’s why I study Mandarin.
