A Yahoo News article reported the passing of Tsunezō Murotani, known for his educational and historical manga for children. Many people may not immediately recognize his name, but he has a special place in my memory. Here’s why…
One of the horror mangas that left a long-lasting impression on me was Murotani’s “Mushi Jigoku” (Insect Hell), part of the horror short story collection “Ningyō Jigoku” (Doll Hell). I was especially moved when I finally discovered its title after 40 years.
When I first wrote about it, the manga had long been out of print and very difficult to obtain. I wonder what the situation is like today.
