Kiyoshli Nakahata and Tokuhiro Komada both hom- ered in a 16-hit attack Sunday, giving the Yomiuri Giants a 7, 3 victory over the defending champion Seibu Lions in the opening game of the Japan Series. Before a crowd of 32,365 at Seibu Stadium, the Central League champion Giants_regjstered at lleast one hit in each inning to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. Nakahata,who hit .321 during the regular season, slugged the go-ahead two-run homer in a four-run third inning. Komada, who went 4-for-5 Sunday,poled a solo homer in a two-run sixth.
"I never expected our boys to produce such big hits," Yomiuri Manager Sadaharu Oh said. He added that the Nakahata's shot changed the tide of the game. lt was the first Japan Series meeting between the Lion and the Giants in four years. Four Giant hurlers combined on a seven-hitter and struck out 13. Second pitcher Hajime Kato, who relieved starter Masumi Kato, who relieved starter Musumi Kuwata, was credited with the victory. He allowed only one hit over 3*1/2 innings.
