2020 Cadillac CT4-V: What Sets It Apart From The ATS-V
The 2020 Cadillac CT4-V is now the brand’s entry-level model, effectively replacing the well-loved ATS-V that ended its run last year. The ATS-V was a four-door sedan that produces 464 horsepower. Will the CT4-V be able to compete?
Cadillac showed us the CT4-V version, which is a notch higher than the base model but still isn’t the track variant we are expecting. The CT4-V looks pretty athletic already, though, with its wide grille with a dark mesh pattern framed by a dark border. This is reminiscent to the ATS-V, as well as the vertically-oriented headlights. The CT4-V diverged a little by adding lights that drip down on the sides of the front fascia.
If you can remember, the ATS-V has a smaller upper grille and a more prominent lower grille. Its carbon fiber package will get you a carbon-fiber front splitter, carbon-fiber hood vent, and composite black rocker extensions. Hopefully, we’ll get to see all these on the track variant of the CT4-V.
Viewed from the side, the CT4-V doesn’t look out of the ordinary. It features a character line near the top of the door handles and a sharper line at the bottom near the wheels. The roof has an interesting slope to it that made the window look wonky.
The two models—the ATS-V and the CT4-V—share the same wheelbase, but the latter is 3.2 inches longer. The difference is barely visible but we’re sure the passengers will appreciate the extra space.
The CT4-V has quad exhaust tips popping out of its rear end. The taillights are also oriented vertically, much the same as the headlamps out front. The overall design of the rear end is simple; the ATS-V has a bolder rear spoiler.
Moving inside, the CT4-V will be completely different from the ATS-V. The new model has a redesigned infotainment setup—a screen that sits on top of the dashboard and a rotary control that knob that sits right next to the driver. There are other control buttons, too, that have all been made for user comfort.
3 Things To Know About The Cadillac XT5 Sport Package
If you want your Cadillac XT5 to stand out, you may want to check out the XT5 Sport Package that Cadillac made available for the Luxury and Premium Luxury trims of the SUV. Priced at $1,995 and $2,995, respectively, the package will bring in a lot of cosmetics updates for what is already an aesthetically imposing SUV.
Darker Exterior
Look, you don’t have to buy the Sport Package unless you want your XT5 to be looked at under a different light. It brings nothing to the engine and there’s no exclusive body paint to speak of. What it does bring is a darker exterior packaging, which means LED headlights (that’s optional for the Luxury trim), taillights with clear lenses, a front grille with gloss black treatment, and a pair of side steps that should make climbing up and down the SUV a breeze. What stands out most in the package is the set of 20-inch aluminum wheels that feature a sleek Technical Grey finish.
Aluminum-Trimmed Interior
The XT5’s interior benefits from the package, too. The cabin is now dressed in aluminum trim no matter if you choose the entirely black upholstery or the one that combines Jet Black and Cirrus (a warm shade of blue, kinda like the shade of cirrus clouds). There are sport pedals, of course, but Cadillac forgot to upgrade its floor mats so you should look at your local car accessory shop for something that will complement the rest of the cabin.
No Engine Upgrade
It’s worth mentioning, of course, that you cannot expect the Sport Package to come with an upgrade for the Cadillac XT5’s engine. It’s still fitted with the same 3.6-liter V-6 engine that makes 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. That power goes through an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends the signal to two front wheels. There’s an option for an all-wheel drive.
Top 3 Facts About The 2019 Cadillac CT5
It’s time for Cadillac to retire the nameplates CTS and ATS. On the heels of these two nameplates’ retirement would be the birth of the CT5 with a smaller CT4 to be added in the future.
The Cadillac CT5 has already been spotted testing and we believe it is heavily based on the Escala concept. The CT5 will be similar to the CTS in terms of size, but that’s where the similarity stops. The former will be sportier, more modern, and will have a new body style. It will borrow from the fastback layout of the Escala concept.
Exterior
The front grille of the CT5 is very wide and sports thin horizontal slats instead of the small rectangular inserts. The headlamps will have small LED spots toward the grille and bigger lights around the corner. And just like the Escala and the CT6, it would also have vertical lights on the sides.
The prototype we have seen shows a big bulge on the middle of the hood, but it’s probably because they were testing a performance model. The regular CT5 will most likely have a less aggressive hood.
On the sides, the CT5 has a coupe-style roof, sloping deck lid, and a spoiler integrated into the edge of the trunk lid. On the rear end, the bumper will be clean and simple on the regular models thought the higher models should have an aggressive diffuser and quad exhaust pipe layout.
Interior
The CT5 will have a brand-new layout and it will be sportier and more modern compared to the Escala and the CT6. There will be huge displays both for the instrument cluster and the infotainment system, and a small, clean center stack should house a few buttons and dials.
The seats are going to be comfortable in both the standard and high-performance trim levels. The higher models should get leather and Alcantara inserts. There’s ample legroom in the rear compartment. The layout would be good for a four-seater, though a five-seat layout would remain standard.
Performance
It is not yet clear what engines the CT5 would have. We’re thinking it would come packed with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that can produce 265 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. This will be paired with a rear-wheel-drive system.
Other options would be the 3.6-liter V-6 rated with 335 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque, as well as the 3.0-liter V-6 engine that delivers 404 ponies and 400 pound-feet of torque.
The CT5 should have a base price of $46,495.

More Details Emerge About The 2020 Cadillac CT5 Luxury Sports Sedan
Cadillac hasn’t given us much to talk or think about when it comes to the 2020 Cadillac CT5 luxury sports sedan—seeing as the prototype has always been heavily camouflaged to the point that it’s barely recognizable. We think Cadillac wants us to think they’re merely testing the Charger, thanks to the big hood scoop and fake full-width taillights.
The last time we got spy photos of the CT5, we only glimpsed its front end. This time, thankfully, we’re seeing it from all angles and despite the fake body work, we can find some important new details about the luxury sports sedan.
The front lighting takes a new development. The production-ready headlights are fitted with what appears to be LED illumination and it takes on the same shape we saw on the last prototype. We believe this will end up higher on the front-end section, probably extending horizontally toward the grille. A section of the headlights would still bend to extend to the fender at the back. The design language of the headlights is meant to fuse the current Cadillacs and the Escala concept, which are the basis of the car’s overall body style.
There are also vertical LED accent lights, a trademark feature of the current Cadillacs and the Escala. This is a new detail since we didn’t see this development on the last prototype.
The grille’s details have also changed. Instead of the usual slats that we see in many Cadillacs and other sedans, the CT5 has a plastic mesh of small rectangles. Think of a brickwork and you’ll understand what the CT5 is getting into.
The back looks a typical Cadillac, though it’s less modern than the front end. There are angular cutouts in the bumper (probably to let exhaust gases out) and the taillights have the current Cadillac look with the top curving. The prototype used fake lights, so we can’t tell yet if it will be similar to the one on the Escala.
There’s a good chance the new CT5 will use existing Cadillac engines such as the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6, and the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6. The CT5 should be revealed sometime next year for the 2020 model year.

Checking Out The New 2019 Cadillac XT4
The decision of Cadillac to hire Johan de Nysschen has finally come to fruition in terms of the crossover market. This 2018, we’ll finally get to see the launch of the 2019 Cadillac XT4, which will give the BMW X3, the Audi Q5, and the Mercedes-Benz GLC a run for their money.
Making its public debut at the 2018 New York Auto Show, the XT4 is Cadillac’s smallest crossover to date. It rides on a new platform and uses a small displacement engine. Is it surprising that Cadillac wants a chunk off the crossover market? It’s a huge market, and one being slowly monopolized by luxury brand such as BMW.
Exterior
The overall styling cues of the XT4 comes from the larger XT5. Although it has a more subdued appearance, it is still elegant and sophisticated. Plus, it has a nice sporty look that would go well with the millennial market. Similar to the XT5, the XT4 has a swept-back headlamps with vertical daytime running lights, a big trapezoidal grille, and a sturdy bumper. From the CT6 sedan, it got the side intakes that are placed higher than the fascia and the LED strips that are shorter than the XT5.
Overall, the XT4 feels sportier and more aggressive, which is much needed if it’s to compete with the BMW X3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC. There are eight colors that you can choose from— Atlantic Metallic, Autumn Metallic, Crystal White Tricoat, Twilight Blue Metallic, Shadow Metallic, Red Horizon Tintcoat, Stellar Black Metallic, and Radiant Silver Metallic.
Interior
Inside, the cabin has some familiar features, but there’s enough styling elements also to make it stand out. First, it has a unique dashboard design. The center piece holds the new eight-inch infotainment display with several controls underneath. There’s a three-spoke steering wheel design wrapped in leather and has big grip handles for a sportier feel.
Other notable features include the sporty seats with a massage option and ambient lighting. On the tech side, you can enjoy the infotainment system with a smartphone-like operation and intuitive interface.
Drivetrain
Here’s the 411 on the new Cadillac XT4. It will run on a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with Active Fuel Management or cylinder deactivation for the best fuel economy. It can produce 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
The XT4 will have a starting price of $35,790, including the destination charge, but excluding tax, title, license, dealer fee, and optional equipment.
4 Important Things To Know About The 2019 Cadillac CT6 V-Sport
The Cadillac CT6 was specifically designed to go against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the BMW 7 Series, and the Audi A8, but that was back in 2015. Fast-forward today, the 2019 Cadillac CT6 V-Sport will be offering a more powerful variant of the vehicle, thanks to its brand-new V-8 engine.
The V-Sport gets all the new and cool features, including some that are borrowed from the Escala, though the main highlight remains to be the V-8 engine it got under the hood.
1. Exterior
The concept design of the 2019 Cadillac CT6 V-Sport is based on the Escala, so needless to say, the new Cadillac looks completely different from the mid-cycle upgrade. In the front, there’s a new grille that’s almost similar to the Escala, thanks to the upper chrome trim. There’s also a sportier mesh with a honeycomb-like design that replaced the regular CT6 grille with horizontal slats.
Other things to take notice of in the new Cadillac’s overall look are the new headlamps and taillights, the black window trim, the decklid spoiler, a revised bumper, and the sportier side skirts.
2. Interior
Cadillac released two photos of the interior of the 2019 Cadillac CT6 V-Sport, and we must say we’re pretty impressed. What we can gleam is that it will have upholstered leather seating and carbon fiber trim on the dashboard. We’re expecting there’ll be the V-Sport badge on the floor mats and the door sills, but we’re still not sure about that.
The V-Sport is using an upgraded infotainment system with smartphone-like features and a more intuitive interface. There’s also a new rotary controller, new rear camera mirror, a 10-inch display screen, and hands-free super cruise.
3. Drivetrain
As mentioned above, the 2019 Cadillac CT6 V-Sport will be packed with the all-new V-8 engine that produces 550 horsepower and a whopping 627 pound-feet of torque. It will come with an AWD as standard or you can opt for a 10-speed automatic transmission. There’s also the Brembo braking system and performance-optimized track mode.
4. Prices
Cadillac has yet to announce the price for the 2019 Cadillac CT6 V-Sport, but it’s safe to assume that it will be the most expensive car in the lineup. The price tag could go as high as $100,000 before options.
Toyota Tops Consumer Reports in Terms of Reliability
For the fifth consecutive year, Toyota emerged on top in terms of reliability. This was based on a survey conducted by Consumer Reports.
According to Fox News , Toyota took the top place among the 27 automotive brands surveyed by Consumer Reports. The brand was followed by Lexus, which also happened to be Toyota’s luxury vehicle division. The two exchanged places from their rankings in 2016. Another Asian brand, Kia, appeared in the top three spot of the study.
US brand Cadillac was listed as the worst among the 27 brands researched. Then, GMC and Ram were in the 26th and 25th places, respectively.
The source noted that the meticulous approach of Toyota in introducing new technology in its vehicles mostly contributed to its reliability. The Japanese brand has been known to implement new tech gradually and steadily in its new models. This was in contrast to the other brands featured in the survey, which garnered low scores because of complaints in their infotainment systems and new transmissions.
The report singled out the Toyota Camry sedan as an example. The latest model of the car possesses an eight-speed transmission gearbox. The system was first tested in the Highlander SUV.
Kia was two spots up from last year. Again, this was because of their decision not to rush things up when it comes to putting new tech in their vehicles. Most of the technology in their new models today first came out in their sister brand, Hyundai. The Kia Niro hybrid had the highest point in reliability among the other units in the brand’s lineup. Unfortunately for Hyundai, they dived three spots down to number 10 this year.
The biggest climber in this year’s survey was Chrysler. The brand was up by 10 positions compared to last year, thanks mainly to the positive remarks in its Pacifica minivan. Acura plunged the deepest by seven spots because of its new models’ transmission issues.
Cadillac CT6 With Super Cruise Sells For $71,300
Looking for an autonomous driving car? The top-end Cadillac CT6 that has been fitted with the Super Cruise autonomous driving system will sell for about $71,300, the same price tag that the Tesla Model S with similar technology is gunning for.
Beginning this fall, the Super Cruise autonomous driving system will charge $5,000 for anyone who wants to opt for it in the Cadillac CT6 Premium Luxury trim, Uwe Ellinghaus, Cadillar’s chief marketing officer, said. The price tag will be an add-on to the CT6’s $66,290, shipping included.
Those with $85,290, including shipping, to spare can have the package on the top-end CT6 Platinum model. The Super Cruise will be standard on that trim model, which had a $500 increase from the 2017 model year but the same with the 2018 pricing.
The Super Cruise is part of the mid-model-year addition that Cadillac dubbed as “2018i.” Originally, it was expected to charge $2,500 for two models, but Cadillac has since changed the pricing options. Ellinghaus said that it’s pertinent for Cadillac to make Super Cruise standard on the top-level CT6 because it’s still a new technology. Basically, this is a “trial” for Cadillac owners who may still not know they want what the system has to offer.
He added that the Super Cruise is the kind of system you “will never want to give it up” after trying it. Ellinghaus likened it with the head-up displays.
To make it more accessible to customers, Cadillac is topping its more than 900 dealers to have the Super Cruise-equipped CT6 models in their showrooms.
The Super Cruise includes Driver’s Awareness and Convenience and Enhanced Vision and Comfort packages. Aside from controlling the steering, braking, and acceleration in certain situations, as well as allowing the drivers to take their hands off the steering wheel and feet off the pedals while driving, the system added a safety measure to monitor facial cues and pupils. The system will be able to sense when the driver is either sleeping or not paying attention. It can then send alerts through audio warnings and a light bar on the steering wheel.
Cadillac Escala Concept Car Unveiled
Cadillac revealed a new concept car at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California on Thursday. The luxury car division of General Motors unveiled the Escala.
According to the company’s official media site , the Cadillac Escala concept car is a rear-wheel drive four-door sedan. The auto appears to be an evolution of the brand’s Ciel convertible concept launched in 2011 and its Elmiraj coupe concept that debuted in 2013.
Based on the statement of Johan de Nysschen, the president of Global Cadillac, the Escala embodies the next design language of the luxury car brand. It also possesses the technology that future Cadillac models will carry. Moreover, the vehicle signifies the brand’s comeback to the top of the premium car market.
The company explained that Escala is a Spanish word for “scale.” They chose to name the luxury sedan concept as that because it is considered to be the larger, more elite and expressive companion to the 2016 Cadillac CT6.
The Cadillac Escala measures 210.5 inches in length. It is approximately six inches longer than the CT6 model. On the other hand, its width is at 76.7 inches while its height and wheelbase are 57.3 inches and 127.1 inches, respectively.
The Escala is fitted with a 4.2-liter twin turbo V8 engine that Cadillac has been developing. So far, there’s no word yet regarding the output of the power unit but the company revealed that it has an Active Fuel Management technology. The feature allows better fuel-saving for the four-cylinder operation of the car. Again, the unit is expected to be carried over to the upcoming models of the luxury automaker.
Among the other noteworthy features of the Escala include Cadillac’s signature vertical headlamps. The lighting is equipped with organic light emitting diode (OLED) for better illumination. The grille design takes a three-dimensional precision pattern as well. To top it all off, the automaker fits the car with 22-inch wheels with two-layer spoke designs.
Other technological treats that the Escala has in store for customers is its better connectivity functions, including voice and gesture controls.
The surfaces inside the Escala are covered in hand-tailored fabric. The materials and styling are made possible by the partners of the brand in the fashion industry.
Bicentennial Edition Cadillac Eldorado Relives ’76 Convertible Spirit
In the 1970s, threats of air pollution and government safety regulations almost put an end to the convertibles. By 1975, only GM Motors was the lone producer of full-size convertibles, but it didn’t last long as the next year saw the departure of its sole surviving US convertible—the Eldorado.
This year marks the bicentennial anniversary of the 1976 Cadillac Eldorado, and GM wouldn’t let this year pass without something to commemorate it. According to a report , the final 200 units of the 1976 Eldorado convertibles were Bicentennial Edition cars. They are identical to the convertibles of the past, except for the California-emissions equipment choking the 500-cubic-inch V-8.
The Bicentennial Edition comes in triple white—Cotillion White exterior, a white top, and white leather interior with contrast red details such as the seat piping, dash, seatbelts and carpet. Red and blue pinstriping are on the hood, as well as red pinstriping on the sides.
Instead of the standard black, the wheel covers have white centers, giving the car an uber retro vibe. The car is packed with everything you can expect of a regular Eldo; options also remain the same. But for the Bicentennial Editions, you’ll find a gold dash plaque: “This 1976 Fleetwood Eldorado is one of the last 200 identical U.S. production convertibles.”
With GM keeping the last unit for itself, this means there are 199 Bicentennial Editions of the Eldorado out there. Most of these are assuredly in the hands of collectors, ready to show them to the world once convertibles became truly extinct.
Of course, that’s unlikely to happen anytime soon. You can walk into any dealership now and get yourself some modern top-down convertible, though that cannot diminish the charm and wonder of owning a ’76 Eldorado with its long hood and utter disregard for space utilization.
The Bicentennial Edition will most certainly not come cheap. It might two to three times the price of a standard Eldo.
