PREMISE

In a world of vast wildernesses, giant bugs. and far-reaching powers, centuries removed from an apocalyptic event that caused mutations to pop up around the globe, the Cralatez sits in unimaginable ruin. The Haven stands alone in its defense against the outside world, an underground complex designed to keep its residents safe. From the Haven venture explorers, combatants, peddlers, and marauders into the wilderness, for glory and defense.

Roaming the wilderness are giant, mutated bugs of all different species. They aren't the only mutants, however, as the humans of the Cralatez have powers of their own. Powers to control temperature, cells, energy, weather, and even to turn into mutants themselves. These powers are called Machta and can be learned by anyone with enough practice. Used both in infrastructure and combat, these Machta are the sole reason the Haven still stands.

It is the task of those in the Haven to defend against attacks, not just from mutants, but from dangerous marauders and the evil Hourglass Clan as well. To train their power and explore the wilderness is the quest of each Haven Knight, but to attack the Haven and disrupt the peace is the quest of each Hourglade.

It is up to you to forge your own path in this other world, so be prepared to make friends along the way, explore what you want, and lead your own groups if you want. The world is yours, now have fun!

WHY

To start, it's been a while since I've been active on the forums, and the lack of RP content is somewhat discouraging. I'm posting this because I want to see who in the community is still interested in something like this. More specifically, I want to know if there is anyone interested in helping me out. As much as I'd like to say I could run something like this solo, I know from experience that splitting it up among (ඞ) multiple people has a FAR better outcome.

I decided to start this project because I have a month off from university, and am spending part of that time on revitalizing a side of scratch that I used to be big in, RP. Every time I've tried to get back into it, though, I've felt a bit cringe . TO PREFACE , I don't think RP is inherently cringe , but I do think there are some steps that I could take to prevent this. Throughout the lockdown, I got into DnD with a couple of friends, and I want to bring the tabletop RPG feel to scratch in a way that I personally haven't seen done before.


STRUCTURE

I've already started work on a scratch project that will act as a handbook/character creator/toolkit/rulebook for the RP. For those familiar with DnD, I hope this project will act in a similar way to DNDBeyond, a hub for all information necessary to partake in the roleplay. In doing it this way, I hope to be able to add traditional TTRPG features like health, inventory, and a standardized dice-rolling combat/interaction system that will prevent OP gameplay and serve to standardize the experience. This handbook project will also give detailed information and provide copy/paste prompts with formatted events that can take place in-world.

The actual roleplaying will happen on this studio , much like RPs of the past have been. Because I hope to have more standardized rules for PvE/PvP and interaction with environments, a big part of the studio will be moderators keeping things civil and keeping activity among players up with events and random encounters. There won't be too much enforcement for things being “on model” so to speak, the most important thing is for the players to have fun.

The forums will be used mostly for character applications and exposure, as well as listing the scratchers involved and the links to the project and studio.

If you're interested in helping me in collaboration once the project is released and studios created for the project, please feel free to respond to this topic. I'm not entirely sure what we'll need to get started, most likely it will be moderators to start, I hope to include event hosting positions as well.

If you don't necessarily want to collaborate but are interested in the possibility of a pen and paper style RPG coming to the Scratch community, follow the topic or post here to share your interest and keep me motivated.

Doubling this bump as an excuse to mention that I'm working on the graphics for the project as we speak, trying to focus on polish first and foremost.

Is it like a real project and there's an RP studio to accompany it? If so I'm interested!

The project is going to contain at least all of the following:

• A character creator that outputs a fully formatted character sheet for posting to the RP forum/studio,

• All the rules for the RP studio (both Rules rules and the rules to the RP),

• Stats for items, mutants, attacks, classes, and weapons,

• A roll generator that will automatically give the result of a roll,

• An encyclopedia/handbook for all in-universe lore, locations, and organizations (player-run and built-in).

• The user's character within the project for RP purposes that has health, inventory, and experience. This character will be saved via a list copy/paste saving system for safe-keeping, and I hope also to add a temporary autosave that resides in cloud variables that acts as an anti-oops backup. This is the part of the project that will likely take the most time, so it is liable to be added post-launch but is also the part of the project that I think will set this RP(G) aside from most others on Scratch.

Any further features will come out in post-release patches to the project. Really anything people find interesting, I'm down to add! The project should be used in real-time while interacting in the RP studio for the best experience, so it'll come mostly down to what people want that I didn't think of.
Also, once the universe is adopted by a community and some activity is set in stone, work will start on an official game built around the universe.

Here's a weekly bump /update to remind the members of the Scratch forums that this project is still in the works. Currently working on a list-based encyclopedia system with a table of contents for the project. The background display of the project is completed and fully functional, so Menu/UI is the next course of action for sure. I'm not sure if I want to go entirely with an ask/answer and visualized list I/O system, but as of now, that's looking like the easiest and simplest solution to get this project up and running before the spring semester starts back up.

Just an update to anyone following production, I'm currently working through worldbuilding for the universe the TTRPG will take place in. Once the TTRPG takes off, I'm also planning on getting help from some of you to create a working RPG to go along with the universe. Once again, if the idea is interesting to anyone, I'm more than happy to answer questions about the world/gameplay/timeframe I'm working on!

I'm totally up to help with any coding, I just want to know - what stage of development is this in?

is this still alive lol or with mmo have you kinda given up on it

He told me “The Otherworld project is on hold for the moment while my girlfriend and I work on the demo. If you still want to help out after the fact, I'd be happy to reach out after the demo is released” so I guess that's what's gonna happen.

I appreciate the offer, right now the RP and RPG side of things is on hold while some friends and I work on an animated webseries based on the universe. (If you can't tell I'm a little creatively scatterbrained lol)
