I think followers should be renamed to friends again. To me, it seems like scratch is turning into more of a popularity game more than programming and sharing your work with the world. People are paying more attention to their follows more than other stuff. If you think about it, if you make it friends again, it would seem more realistic and i think it would help the problem a lot.

I totally understand where you're coming from, but it kind of delivers a wrong message. I follow total strangers to see their interesting projects. I don't want to pose as a friend to a person I hardly know. Plus, it doesn't totally eliminate the popularity concept.

Ehh… yeah, as mathman314 said, I don't want to be a “friend” to someone I barely know. I'm gonna have to say no support on this one.

I agree. It makes Scratch seem too, let's say, personal. If I want to follow someone doesn't really mean that I'm their friend. I just like their projects in the Scratch community, and that's all. In real life, friends are a popularity thing to some people, so on Scratch it would be the same. I think that the followers thing is doing fine right now, but I'm glad you want to try to eliminate the popularity issue.

In 1.4, there were friend everybody accounts and people who only wanted attention, too.
And agreeing with mathman314, it's way too personal. The Scratch Team noticed this, and changed it.
I would support an optional row on your profile that said friends, and it would consist of people who follow you that you also follow.

Nah… I dont support.
Who wants to have their title for someone you don't know to them, Friend? Seem awkward to me that you are “Friending” a random person you don't know on scratch…
Follower might be a better title.

I totally
understand how you feel and where you're coming from. Unfortunately, this wouldn't do anything as F4F can also stand for “friend for friend”. (just kidding on that last remark).

Well, it shouldn't be friend or follow. It should be subscriber
some kind of title where it doesn't make you sound like a friend, and it doesn't make it sound like it's a popularity measure.

h
how about “stalkers” instead?
just kidding…
It couldn't be “subscribers” either because some people already say “sub4sub???”

Why not name them: “Favored Scratcher(s)” for following and “Favored by:” for followers, or, Fellows for people you follow, and followers is Your Fellows?
Friends isn't so good because that isn't a great way to describe liking a complete stranger…
P.S. subscriber is more of payment wise then follower wise…

“Followers” is a much better term. But then again following sounds exactly like facebook.

No, Scratch Team changed it because it implies a friendship.
I've always thought Fans and Fan Of would be good changes, though.
