why are people breaking down over the sight of a “membership”
It’s really confusing me, like unless they didn’t know scratch is a non-profit why are they losing their minds over a membership, like it’s just an attempt at a better more engaging way to donate to scratch and yet people are losing it at the sight of one

I agree,
Like they break down over ST having to make a membership to get more money to pay for sever costs to make sure scratch stays open.
The membership isn’t even effecting the site so I don’t get their complains
I even seen one guy saying that “oh why would you pay for scratch” source , DUDE??? NO ONE IS FORCING YOU TO BUY THE MEMBERSHIP AND IT DOESNT EVEN EFFECT SCRATCH AT ALL.
Most people who are complaining probably didn’t read the entire post and only think that it makes scratch better for people who buy it and people who don’t have to stay with the old scratch

Probably for the same reasons people lost their minds when someone saw an article and soft demo about generative AI image study in Scratch and erroneously thought that was coming to Scratch when it wasn't.
Which is to say - they limit themselves to just reading the header or title instead of taking the time to slow down and read everything to the end.
I do think most of the people who are primarily spear-heading this are the weird subsect of kids/teens who are love having arguments or find it fun to hate something when they don't realize that's actually not the norm. (like the weird Ice Age baby hate)
We also live in a world where the commercial social media sites have quick-feed content purposely designed to be addictive. (It's why social media addiction and low reading comprehension is a hot-button topic, but that's another topic for another time and space).
In any case, just report the people who are spreading misinformation and having a genuine meltdown. These usually have a tendency to be the same people who are more likely to break the Community Guidelines in other ways, and maybe all they need is a time-out to realize the path they're headed down is a bad one.
