1st Activity: Weekly Writing Prompt - March 1st, 2026
Prompt: ‘Look around you and find the closest thing near you. Write a story coming from the perspective of that object’
Word Count: 215
Object I Chose: Rubik’s Cube
Is it obvious? No- surely it can’t be that obvious- really? You’ve beaten me again in less than a minute. How do you know exactly how to beat me in so little time? Is there some sort of strategy? Some risk you’re taking when you keep attempting to use me for your own personal gain- 1 hour, 30 minutes, 20 minutes, 10, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1- 30 seconds. I’m used up for only so little time only to find myself, covered in dust, back on the shelf.
And then you take me out again. Because you’re bored. Because in reality, there’s nothing else to do but play with me because you have nothing better to be doing right now. There’s nothing to do. But just like that, I’m useless again. You beat me in 30 seconds and it gets boring. But I guess after a while you cease to know how to use me- but you learn again and you come right back- like a player, a player who, when they’re bored, does everything that they can to stop the feeling of doing nothing, because when you think about it, nothing does nothing for you.
And yet I keep staying, bored myself on this shelf… so why do I keep letting you use me?

“Hello, mister.”
Mr. Whitley looked up from his morning newspaper, but not before sipping his coffee from his somewhat chipped mug and setting it aside. He furrowed his eyebrows, “Hello, Holly. To what do I owe this pleasure?”
“Not any reason, really, mister,” the young girl, Holly, which of whom many could argue was at least 12 years old, with her brown hair braided in two and her eyes dark and intelligent, decided.
“Then for what reason should I mark you down as tardy today?” Mr. Whitley sighed.
“Our car wouldn’t start,” Holly went straight to her desk and set her stuff down, not quite in a rush but visibly exhausted, “we tried to fix it, but well- well, it’s not exactly in great shape, either. We think next Monday we might run it by the repair shop.”
Mr. Whitley nodded, and shook his head, clicking his pen and glancing down at his paper. He muttered, “Holly Jones… age 12… car wouldn’t start.”
Mr. Whitley looked up at Holly. She bit her lip and looked down. Mr. Whitley shook his head, placing his hands behind his head and leaning back in his chair. The telephone rang. He sighed, and sat up, scooting his chair over to the phone on his desk and putting the phone up to his ear, clicking the ‘accept message’ button, “Hello? This is Mr. Whitley.”
Holly sat up straight. Mr. Whitley, mouthed, “one sec,” and continued, while peeking under the tardy slip papers, “Nope… no sign of absence. Nope. Never missed a day of school… it looks like. Nope… no, I don’t think she’s ever been tardy yet… nope, she’s clear!”
Mr. Whitley sighs as he looks at his papers, then looks up at Holly and gestures for her to come to his desk. “Ah, no- yep, Holly’s here,” Mr. Whitley draws out, “I’m handing the phone over to her… now.”
“Hi, this is Holly,” Holly glances over to Mr. Whitley for support.
Mr. Whitley eyes Holly and nods his head, as if to say, go on .
Holly bites her lip but continues, “I’m sorry, I just don’t understand. I’m not sure why I keep getting marked as tardy. I keep arriving to class on time- that shouldn’t- no, oh- oh, okay. Thank you so much.”
Holly hands Mr. Whitley the phone and he sets it down. He then looks at Holly, concerned, “Well?”
She smiles somewhat and nods her head, giggling slightly as Mr. Whitley hive-fives her. Mr. Whitley smirks, then pauses; and glares at Holly; motioning for her to go.
Holly bounces back to her chair.
~~~
The bell rings. Mr. Whitley sighed as he looked up from his morning newspaper, but not before sipping his coffee from his somewhat chipped mug and setting it down.
Whoever thought I’d end up lost in a zoo? And I know the park closed down like, hours ago too, but- oh well, I guess it’s not too bad to have the zoo all to myself. I mean… nobody else is here. Might as well tour as much of it as I can tonight. Meaning like, now .
First, the pandas . Pandas, pandas, pandas. I’ve never seen them before in real life, might as well go see them if there isn’t even a line right now anyways… I don’t know exactly how long I can stay here, though, but- eh, it’s worth a try! Now just to find a map… no, no, now don’t go thinking that I was trying to stay here after dark. I- I wasn’t . I simply got lost and I don’t know my way around the zoo. I don’t .
So now where’s that map… aha ! Pandas… pandas… aha! The pandas! Located at the top of… my eyes drift upwards. Oh. Right . The gondolas.
Now how am I going to get to the top of the zoo as quickly as possible? No. No the security guards aren’t looking for me… no . No I’m supposed to be here! 3 miles to go also isn’t too far, surely. Maybe I can get there just by running.
Cough. Cough. Okay, fine , I get winded really easily- so running might not work. Sprinting, eh- but speedwalking . Now… now that sounds like a good idea!
It doesn’t take me too long till I’m out of breath, hands on my knees, and struggling for air. 2 and a half miles more to go… yay! I’m so close… “Hello?”
Oh dear- I zip around till I’m flat against a brick wall. They continue, “Who’s there?”
I quickly cover my mouth with my hand, as a parrot seems to laugh. Quiet! I’m trying to see the pandas … silence. I close my eyes, my heart beating fast. Nobody’s here. Nobody’s here. “Alright, it’s probably nothing,” they conclude, as I notice a light flicker off to the side in my vision.
I wait a few minutes as I hear their footsteps thudding away. Okay now it’s probably safe. I open my eyes and continue running, sprinting, jogging, and coming to halt by a sign that screams, ‘Sorry, the pandas aren’t here today because they’re on vacation! Please come back later!’
Well. Great .
5th Daily (World Book Day): March 5th, 2026
Prompt: ‘Happy World Book Day! Today we'll be writing reviews and offering book recommendations to our fellow SWCers in the comments! Connect with other passionate readers and share the ups and downs of recent books you've read, or maybe discover a new love of reading you didn't realize you had? Book, (or rather, in this case the book series), I chose: A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket! <3
Why should you read A Series of Unfortunate Events? Short answer; no, you shouldn’t. Why? Well, that is simply because it details a dastardly plot created by a cruel and vile villain known as Count Olaf who takes custody of, though intelligent, albeit very unfortunate children known as the Baudelaires. If I were you, I wouldn’t read the books simply because they describe such horrible events that one would almost be better suited to just as simply read about something happier such as a little elf dancing in a meadow.
I’m sorry to tell you that nothing quite so happy happens in the lives of the Baudelaire children. Which is why, I advise you not to read the books, unless of course, you are utterly and concerningly concerned for the lives of the Baudelaire children and the Baudelaire case overall. If that is indeed the situation that you find yourself in, then of course, I urge you to read the books. Purchase the books. Accept the books as gifts. Or even, if you’re that desperate, steal the books from your neighbor.
However, what you will find in these books are adventures to vastly different lands, from somewhat ghost towns to shipwrecks. From fancy elevators to hotel fires. From the slippery slopes of mountains, to carnivals with lions. All of these adventures are indeed all true, and as a matter of fact, there’s even more besides just the few that I listed. Because, what happens in the lives of the Baudelaire children is not just unfortunate, but terrifyingly fantastical and highly exaggerated, even despite the fact that it is all factual.
So, if you do read this book series, and find yourself hoping for hope where there is none, note that I did warn you, but a series of unfortunate events has only just begun.
Book, (or rather, in this case the book series), I chose: A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket! <3
Why should you read A Series of Unfortunate Events? Short answer; no, you shouldn’t. Why? Well, that is simply because it details a dastardly plot created by a cruel and vile villain known as Count Olaf who takes custody of, though intelligent, albeit very unfortunate children known as the Baudelaires. If I were you, I wouldn’t read the books simply because they describe such horrible events that one would almost be better suited to just as simply read about something happier such as a little elf dancing in a meadow.
I’m sorry to tell you that nothing quite so happy happens in the lives of the Baudelaire children. Which is why, I advise you not to read the books, unless of course, you are utterly and concerningly concerned for the lives of the Baudelaire children and the Baudelaire case overall. If that is indeed the situation that you find yourself in, then of course, I urge you to read the books. Purchase the books. Accept the books as gifts. Or even, if you’re that desperate, steal the books from your neighbor.
However, what you will find in these books are adventures to vastly different lands, from somewhat ghost towns to shipwrecks. From fancy elevators to hotel fires. From the slippery slopes of mountains, to carnivals with lions. All of these adventures are indeed all true, and as a matter of fact, there’s even more besides just the few that I listed. Because, what happens in the lives of the Baudelaire children is not just unfortunate, but terrifyingly fantastical and highly exaggerated, even despite the fact that it is all factual.
So, if you do read this book series, and find yourself hoping for hope where there is none, note that I did warn you, but a series of unfortunate events has only just begun.
Part 2: Character Moodboard (written by Fini) ‘Now that you have your character sheet ready, let's move on to the fun part: making character boards! Create a character board that captures your character’s atmosphere—how they dress and the small details that truly define them. You should have at least eight images on your board, and every image should reveal something true about who your character is. You should also include a 100 word explanation of the images you chose. Have fun with this!’
For my character, Lily Marcet, (who I don’t believe I’ve mentioned yet is actually a canon character in the mini series that I’m almost finished writing and will be hosting auditions for hopefully soon *fingers crossed*), I wanted to go with a completely yellow theme. Lily is generally a very optimistic person, especially throughout the story she still provides definitely, like, a place of comfort for the main character, so I chose a lot of happy warm bright yellow images. Little fun fact about her, she had an instance when she was little where she saw a pineapple wearing sunglasses in a store, and has since loved pineapples and the color yellow ever since especially because of it, (and because she just finds it ridiculously hilarious). Also, a little add on I thought was cool, I found an image of a smiley emoji mug and thought that it was kind of perfect, because I definitely think Lily would enjoy something like that!
Part 3: Character Swap (written by Lora) ‘Now that you've got your moodboard and character sheet, it's time to put them to use! Head over to this studio and swap your character with someone else. Once you've got their moodboard and sheet, try to get into the character's shoes. How would they act? What would they say? Write a story of 500 words using the character, and good luck!’
To be written…
Part 4: Character Meeting (written by Seagull) ‘Now, you should have gotten to know your character better than ever, as well as familiarised yourself with your partner's character! Well, now it's time for the two to meet! Write a scene of at least 600 words in which your character and your partner's character meet. It can be any setting or scenario you want, and whether they love or hate each other, that's up to you to decide. Try to consider the characterisation and how you think they would interact as your scene plays out! Don't be afraid to explore and play as much as you want with dynamics and perspective. Good luck – we can't wait to see all the amazing crossovers created ;D’
