The Good Good Tour Brings That Good Good To Town

Drain and friends know how to have a good time

If you are a fan of the hardcore punk genre then Drain ’s Good Good Tour at some point likely has one of your favorite bands on the bill. Joining them for the full tour are Terror and End It , but along the way they will find 15 other bands hopping on and off for various stops.

At our stop here in Charlotte, NC were Scowl and Haywire and the positive chaos was nonstop from the moment the music started.

With five bands on the bill The Fillmore Undergroundwas not quite packed as the first band Haywiretook the stage, however when it comes to hardcore shows the fans are also usually pretty hardcore as well.

From the opening crack of the snare drum the moshing began and joining the crowd in the pit.

The vocalist from Haywire screamed and sang through the entire set in the crowd sharing the mic and joining in on the moshing. It was a sign of the energy that was to grow as the night progressed.

End ITis not the only act from the incredibly strong hardcore scene out of Baltimore Maryland that will be making an appearance on this tour but they are the only other act joining Drain and Terror for the full run of this tour. Casually taking the stage their whole set was pretty relaxed for a hardcore punk performance.

This however did not stop the crowd from doing what they do at a hardcore show and the band gave them exactly what they needed to keep the circle pit going and get the crowd surfing started for the evening.

From here, the evening and the energy from both the crowd and on the stage really began to rise and that can mostly be attributed to the next act on the bill, Scowl.

Through a release of solid albums and relentless touring Scowlhave really made a name for themselves over the last few years.

Playing Charlotte for the first time they roared through a set that has me ready to catch them live again.

The evening’s set breaks were super timely after each act giving the crowd just enough time to rest without being too long and for the next act we definitely needed a moment to prepare.

Hardcore legends Terror. They have been touring for years and knowing exactly how to work the crowd took the stage and immediately erupted into their set.

The night was officially at fever pitch and the crowd full on let loose for this set giving the security staff all they could handle as waves of crowd surfers began breaching the barricade.

One thing I absolutely love about hardcore shows is how involved the bands are with the crowd, jumping out into the crowd and sharing the mic is typical.

Rushing the stage and diving back in is usually typical as well and while it was not so welcome at this venue a few were still able to sneak through.

Terror roared through their set and judging from the faces in the crowd they gave the audience exactly what they wanted.

Keeping the energy at 100% Draintook the stage and immediately ripped into their set. It was clear from the beginning that the guys in Drain were there to have as much fun as everyone in the audience.

Smiling from ear to ear the members of Drain were there to give everything they had and have a great time. Vocalist Sammy Ciaramitaro prowled back and forth jumping up and down across the stage in and out of the crowd.

All while sharing the microphone with the audience and contagiously showing his enthusiasm with everyone in the room. Making it hard to simply not smile and vibe along. Near the end of their set Drain took the crowd interaction up one more notch inviting everyone in the room to participate as they guided everyone to crouch down on the floor and then explode back into a raucous ball of energy and wrapping up the evening shortly after.

I have said it before but hardcore shows are just fun.The camaraderie of hardcore punk shows between the audience and the bands has alway been such a positive experience for me.

This night was once again a confirmation of this thought.

If Drain’s Good Good Touris heading your way, don’t miss it. The fun is guaranteed, and you’ll be swept up in the unstoppable energy.

Photographer Josh Gooch is a North Carolina native and a graduate of Appalachian State, Josh Gooch works in education, teaching graphic design at the community college level. Photography became a passion during his college career, and remained a constant addition to the ever-present soundtrack of life. Privileged to have turned an ear to hip-hop at a young age, after developing a love of music from ‘80s radio, Josh found that the revelation of rock music in high school was what led him to really devote serious amounts of attention to music. From there it was that first club show that sparked an addiction to live music and the exposure to various forms of it during the college years, cementing a love of passion and truth in music. Now, with the ability to combine the passions of photography and music, he hopes to continue to develop a creative voice that others appreciate.
