SoZo HAIR Salon Tips

Artistic haircuts these days are not “precision” haircuts, they are haircuts that lay with the natural movement and growth patterns of each individual head of hair. bobhaircut3

An “Artistic” Hair Cut is a True “Custom” Hair Cut

These types of haircuts are often done on dry hair, or at the very least checked and adjusted when the hair is finished being dried.  Wet hair can be almost made to do whatever your designer wants it to, once hair is dry it tends to do what it wants to do.

With so many wave patterns and growth patterns (otherwise known as cowlicks) along with the fact that these patterns vary from side to side and on different areas of the head, the hair won’t lay the same everywhere.  By cutting the hair in a more natural and dry state, these things can be balanced.  By balancing these variations, the hair should be easier to work with, and achieving the desired look is more consistent.

Hair is often thicker on one side or the other, or from front to back.  In this case, more bulk may need to be taken out in a certain area.  Customizing a hair cut curlyjpg is quite an art and takes a lot of experience, talent, and creativity, so in a sense no two haircuts are alike, each is unique and is truly a work of art!  Some hair designers even do a lot of the customization by feel.  Watching a hair designer do custom cutting is very interesting, it is like watching an artist.

Communication is Key

During your hair cut consultation, communicate with your hair designer about issues or areas of challenge and see if they have some ideas.  A great way to do this is to book a consultation along with your haircut to allow for the time to communicate.  Most hair designers are on a strict schedule and want to do their best to not make a client wait.  It may cost a little more to book the extra time, (at SoZo HAIR consultations are no charge) but it’s worth it if you really want to work toward a possible change (See our article on Are You Ready For A New Hair Style ). Having an open mind will help too.  Decisions don’t have to be made on the spot, food for thought is a start. Maybe your designer even wants some time to research or think about options.
