SoZo HAIR Salon Tips
As hair color trends move toward a more natural look, true highlights in hair highlight the color. They’re more subtle and have a natural sun kissed look. True highlights are lower maintenance and allow for a more graceful grow out along with leaving hair in better condition.
Highlights can be done with products that aren’t so harsh, even in cases where bleach needs to be used, it doesn’t have to be left on as long and a lower strength developer can often be used. When artificial color that is darker than desired highlight shade is already on the hair, lightener/bleach or a remover will need to be used. Highlights will generally be 2 to 3 levels lighter than the base color and be placed with a soft blended look.
In a lot of cases low lights can be done to adjust heavily highlighted hair, which usually looks like a heavy blonde, to appear highlighted. Low lights are strands or sections of darker color added, just as highlights are done with lighter color.
With a natural looking highlight the hair keeps more shine and a healthier appearance overall. Whether looking to add highlights or low lights, there’s no need to be drastic with the change if you’re not feeling ready, take baby steps but have fun with it. Hair is an accessory we wear everyday, spicing it up a bit can be quite refreshing.
