The EUGLOH 3-minute PhD Pitch activity offers the students the opportunity to practice their public communication and engagement skills, as they have to explain their research work during a time-limited intervention through a simple and understandable language that is capable of reaching the general public.

The University of Alcalá organizes the selection phase in June, where 2 PhD students will be selected to represent the university in the final competition that will be held at University of Munich (21-23 October. 2026).

Public communication and engagement. 

•  UAH Phase (June 26, 2026):two candidates will be selected from all participants, regardless of the branches of knowledge. It will be held at University of Alcalá.

• EUGLOH Final competition (October, 2026): the UAH selected candidates will participate in the final competition that will be held at University of Alcalá. In this phase, 2 PhD students from each of the member universities of the European Alliance for Global Health (EUGLOH) consortium will compete, a total of 18 students. The final will be held in Munich. 

The final competition will take place over 3 days (21-23 October, 2026), during which a number of academic and sociocultural activities will be scheduled so that the doctoral students have the opportunity to share their experiences with others from the EUGLOH partner universities.

During the final competition, PhD candidates from the European University Alliance for Global Health (EUGLOH) consortium will participate. Therefore, this event will be also an opportunity for PhD students to come together and get to know about others research.

- The competition will be held in an open and public session.

- Participants who exceed the maximum time of three minutes will be automatically disqualified.

- The presentation must be done in English.

- Only the projection of a static slide may be used as a support element and the university logo should not appear. The use of any other elements, such as video files or sound files, or accessory objects, such as musical instruments, clothing, etc., will not be permitted. Lectern cannot be used and the interaction with the public that involves active dialogue is also not permitted (asking rhetorical questions is not considered interaction with the public).

 Requirements

-PhD students must be enrolled at least in their second year of a doctoral programme.

-Fluent oral competence in English. 

-  PhD supervisor permissionwill be required to complete registration  ( signed letter required)..
