AB - The purpose of this PhD dissertation is to identify and analyze the non-figurative Palaeolithic depictions found in Palaeolithic rock art sites of Central Iberia. The relevance of the work can be summed up in two general aims. Firstly, to update the corpus produced in the 1970s, which has been superseded by subsequent discoveries and by the technical means available. Secondly, we intend to respond to the initial hypotheses that point to the continued human presence in this region during a large part of the Upper Palaeolithic and to a defined cultural personality. To this end, we have studied the sites of: Domingo García and La Griega (Segovia); El Reguerillo (Madrid); El Reno, El Cojo, Las Ovejas, El Turismo, La Hoz and Los Casares (Guadalajara). This last cave, the most complex and diverse of the collection, has been subject to the study methodology that adheres most closely to our standards. Therefore, we have designated this site as the specific focus of our case study. The detailed description of the depictions has required an extensive comparative methodology, which focuses on elements such as technical and morphological features, topographical location and associations.
