In this context, the ‘Accessible Archaeology’ project arose, whose objective was to promote the inclusion of people with ASD and ID in archaeological activities through training workshops at the ‘El Rebollar’ archaeological site and at the Autonomous University of Madrid. The project included five workshops ranging from an introduction to cultural heritage to practical activities such as simulated excavations and laboratory work. Sixteen people with ID or ASD, five educators, four researchers and archaeology professionals participated. The results show high levels of satisfaction and perceived learning, highlighting the practical and experiential activities as positive aspects. However, areas for improvement were pointed out, such as the need for more visual instructions, simpler language and more hands-on activities. The project underlines the positive impact of these initiatives on the self-esteem, social skills and well-being of the participants, promoting their social inclusion.
