AB - The Qaw el-Kebir Project, a joint mission between the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (MoTA) and the University of Alcalá (UAH), has completed its first fieldwork season in the necropolis of the Middle Kingdom nomarchs with the institutional support of MoTA and within the framework of scientific collaboration with the research group «CIARQ - Sciences in Archaeology» from the University of Alcalá. This intervention marks the reac tivation of archaeological investigations at the site, following a century of inactivity since the last documented excavations. The campaign has confirmed the extraordinary heritage and scientific potential of this site, not only due to the monumentality and uniqueness of the remains visible on the surface, but especially because of the remaining evidence that points to a structural and chronological complexity of great interest. Preliminary results reaffirm the importance of Qaw el-Kebir as a key center for the study of provincial elites during the Middle Kingdom and open new research avenues concerning funerary practices, territorial dynamics, and connections with the central administration.
