Your Username
How usernames and user IDs are used on Facebook Profiles
How usernames and user IDs are used on Facebook Profiles
Usernames and user IDs are part of your public profile, which can help your friends find you on Facebook. A username is the web address for your profile or Page (example: Facebook.com/ yourname
).
Username
Your username is often a variation of your name, like jane.doe33 or janedoe3. You can create your own username or choose a username that Facebook suggests.
Some of the things you can do with usernames:
Create a custom link (for example, www.facebook.com/janedoe3) to your profile that you can share with your friends or post on external websites.
Access information about someone through Facebook. For example, if your username is janedoe3, your friends can go to “facebook.com/janedoe3” to see your profile and any public information
.

User ID
Your User ID is a string of numbers that doesn't personally identify you but does connect to your Facebook profile. You have a User ID automatically, whether or not you choose to create a username. Learn how to find your user ID.
User IDs can:
Allow someone with the ID to see your profile, including any public information. Learn how to adjust what people can see in your profile
.
Help other applications personalize your experience by connecting with your Facebook account. When you allow apps to connect with your Facebook account, they can use your user ID to see public information, like your public profile and your friend list.
When you run into issues with an app or game, your User ID can help the developer better investigate the problem to understand and address your specific concerns.
Guidelines for creating a custom username or screen name on Facebook
Guidelines for creating a custom username or screen name on Facebook
When you create a custom username for your Page or profile, keep in mind:
You can only have one username for your Page or profile, and you can't have a username that is already being used.
Usernames can only contain alphanumeric characters (A–Z, 0–9) and periods ("."). They can't contain generic terms or domain extensions (e.g., .com, .net), including country extensions (e.g., .ie, .de, .ca) .
Usernames must be at least 5 characters long.
Periods (".") and capitalization can't be used to differentiate usernames. For example, johnsmith55, John.Smith55 and john.smith.55 are all considered the same username.
Usernames shouldn't impersonate someone else.
Your username must adhere to the Facebook Terms
.
Usernames for Pages
Keep in mind that you must be an admin
to create or change the username for a Page.
You may not be able to immediately create a username for a new Page if you’ve recently created several new Pages. A Page’s username can also be removed because of inactivity.
