Rétromobile, the annual celebration of all the great sports cars of Europe and beyond, as well as one train, an airplane, several motorcycles, and acres and acres of art, is celebrating its 50th anniversary right now in Paris.

“In 1976, a joyful band of free spirits nurtured a dream as ambitious as it was heartfelt: to create, in the heart of Paris, a gathering capable of bringing together all lovers of classic vehicles. Simply named Rétromobile, this dream has stood the test of time and is now preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary,” said Romain Grabowski, exhibition director of Rétromobile.

This year included a gathering of all seven BMW Art Cars that ever raced at Le Mans, the last of the 88 Bugatti railcars ever produced, great rally cars from 1960 to 1990, the sports and race cars of Alpine, 35 years of the Renault Clio (which we do not get), 50 years of the VW GTI (which we do), presidential limousines from Citroën and DS, endurance racing cars from Ferrari, all seven models of the Peugeot 205 GTI, crazy concept cars from Citroën, Mercedes at the Mille Miglia, 125 years of Škoda race cars, Porsche off-road race cars, the motorcycles of Steve McQueen, Mazda rotaries, and Opel sports cars (yes, they made them). Ducati had a stand all to itself. There was even a tribute to 116 years of Morgans, as well as the Honda Prelude on the debut of the newest model of that storied line.

That was in addition to countless artists in both two and three dimensions, plus an entire separate hall of supercars.

The show has been such a big hit in Europe that organizers will open a second show this year in New York at the Javits Center November 19-22. So you have no excuse not to attend.
